Dawn's seahorse tank

I set this tank up in Oct 2016. I intentionally made it a bb display so that I could syphon out any detritus, excess mysis or any other accumulating debris. It was really wonderful from a husbandry standpoint.

This is what it looked like in Jan 2017. I liked that I could move the 2 large rock around, and rearrange the coral for a new scape whenever I wanted. What I did not like was that it was so clean and without sand, it looked downright sterile. This year I decided that I was willing to make a BIG change to have a more natural looking reef.

This is the new scape. I added sand and moved the 2 large rocks to make a retaining wall for a DSB. I wanted a multi-level look. The seahorses love it since there are so many places to hitch. I have had many DSBs but never with seahorses so I am going out on a limb. I believe I can still maintain the husbandry the ponies need to stay healthy but the proof will be in the pudding. What do you all think?

Have you ever seen those magnetic rock frag holders I think a nano size one would look great near the middle left. Only thing would be u would need to adjust the water mover. Tank looks great.

I have seen those magnetic rocks in other folks tanks on other forums. You are right, aesthetically that would improve the appearance of the tank. Visually, the tank is definitely weightier (lop-sided) on the right and what you are proposing would help that. I am relying on my flow to hit the length of the retaining wall with a lot of force however. That is part of my overall plan to help safeguard against anything building up there that can decay. I will ponder that a while however. There might be a way around it. Thanks for the affirmation.

Really like the new look, it's so natural.
Thanks Kevin, that is what I was trying to accomplish, a more natural look. How is your reef doing? I still have that orange lepto or whatever its name is that you gave me when we came and toured your tank.

Very nice Dawn. I still like the horse on the glass.

Thanks Jesse, I like it too. If I give up keeping ponies someday I am not sure how I will feel about then but for now I am good with it.

Did you start your new build yet?

BTW, those bushes you gave us are doing great now that we have them protected from the deer. Thanks again for them.

Been accumulating. My mind is in overdrive about it. As soon as I get started on all the remodeling of the apartment, work craps on me. My other guy is gone now. I got a worthless temp for now, but he can only clean. The overtime is great though. The new setup has been going on so long, things are changing. Overtime covers the changes. My lights are completely different now. Just got this in yesterday.

Hopefully I'll get to things soon.

I have really liked the idea of T5/LED combo lights ever since they came out. If I could afford them, thats what I would have. Its gonna be nice Jesse. Everyone that has used them seems to love them.

Yep, thats what I use. Reef breeders 24 led, and a radion g3 with 2 x 24 t5's running lengthway in the front of the LED's. I am thinking about adding a second run of T5's on the rear side if the LED's so it would work exactly like your picture.

That would be nice Ted.

I am happy to report that my tank did not go through a mini cycle as a result of die off from the rock that is the retaining wall. I was a little worried that by making the DSB and smothering life on the side of the sand that some ammonia would be present. It should have shown up by now if it were going to.

I guess the ponies know tomorrow is valentine's day because Samson was flexing his pouch and Eve came a prancin'. I really think Samson was trying to get Delilah's attention but to no avail. At least he got noticed!
