Dealing with ammonia toxicity

With the recent craze of having lawn gnomes on WC I wanted to point out that gnomes attract large dogs and they often urinate on the gnome. This causes unsightly brown burns (bleaching) in the surrounding lawn. Urine has a large amount of ammonia in it and it is so strong it will kill the grass. Placing the gnome on a concrete pad or spraying it with an animal repellant is one solution. You can also water a freshly urinated gnome with large amounts of RO/DI to dilute the ammonia and lessen the damage.

What about dosing your gnome with products like "alpha" or other conditioners that detox ammonia. Will this keep the grass green?

I have found that when large dogs pee on my lawn gnomes, that my calcium gets depleted as well. So I reccomend placing a calcium yule log in your Christmas Tree stand if you are going to put lawn gnomes in your wreath tank.

I have created a pee patch for my lab that is fenced off from the rest of the yard. I have placed my gnome in the centre of the pee patch. My dog is really motivated to pee on that gnome.
Acutally after I few beers I am motivated to do the same

It just goes to show you there is a place in your yard for every gnome.

Another advantage is with the recent theft of gnomes in our area I can't wait till they try and steal that one:eek2:
