Death of a Zoa Colony (Progression Pics)

Thought I'd share some pictures. Over the last week or so, one of my favorite colonies starteshowing signs of infection, or agitation.

This is what my colony looked like about 3 weeks ago... nice and healthy (the pink ones);

About a week ago, it started looking like this, closing up and showing some sort of brown fungus.

So, I did a fresh water dip, nothing too major. I don't have iodine, or lugols, etc... This was the best I could do given my available time this week. I did place the colony on the other side of the tank, away from the rest of my zoa's as a precaution.

Funny thing is, there is a frag of the same colony, that I had placed in the far back of the tank, away from everything else, and that frag is showing the same symptoms. Mind you, this frag has been on its own for well over 3 months or so.

I have had this colony for over a year and a half. It has survived much, a partial crash, etc... I have no idea why this happened and why this particular morph is the only one affected. Something similiary happened to another pink morph I had December 2005. Any thoughts?

Yah, you need a QT tank and dip in Furan-2. I had that exact same thing. I lost a few colonies before i discovered the Furan-2. I setup a 10gal QT for 4 weeks. I did 3 dips total, leaving a day in between each dip for the zoas to recover. The dips were in 1 cup of RO water with 1 packet/pill of Furan-2 for 20 min. This has worked on every single frag/colony i've run into with problems since.

Good luck! Act fast!

I can setup QT tank later tonight.... I have a spare 20g sitting in the garage. I don't think I have extra lights though... Would a 24w PC work for a week or two?

Yes that would work find IMO. You could also pickup one of those clip lights from HD, and slap in a 100w compact flourescent bulb if the zoas begin to reach for light.

I had a problem with both pinks i've gotten. Luckily with the above dipping procedure i was able to save both with minimal loss.

My pinks, two different kinds have all done great, growing quite quickly. One colony got placed by a mushrooms and closed up for several days, just beginning to fully open now. I was a little afraid they would get fungus as I almost lost the original colony to it.

I've lost some zoa's the exact same way. The second time it came on I did a betadine dip. It saved a lot of them. Wish I knew about this treatment back then!

My two pink frags are doing ok. I've had them for 4 months. I would also do the Furan-2 dip. It is available at the Petco by me.
