OK after this last post by corvertte with that only being his 3rd post, I've requested that other post to be deleted.

Corvette, I don't think I "bent" the rules. I'm simply saying that I can understand why people do. They shouldn't do it...but I understand why they do it.

I'm not sure how that post could go against me, but I also see why teachers (or anyone) keep their mouths shut. This is why I like to hide in my classroom and just teach away!!!!

On the up side, the people we're contracted with have their biggest sale I've seen yet on the lights I want, so it won't be such a loss. They are a national company. Of course,when I was contacting companies looking for discounts and donations, their response to me was "we don't have small groups."

I'm buying the lights today. Tanks will be operational today. Kids will start building and aquascaping, etc tomorrow. Lights will be here next week.

I'll keep you posted.

Keep up the great work and do what YOU feel is right for yourself and for the kids you are educating. I have great respect for what you have and are doing - keep it up.

Anyways, thanks. One of the HARDEST things for me to have learned over the years and still am learning, is to not be so impulsive!!! I don't say much, but when I do, it usually comes out way too strong/harsh (poor hubby), though definately from the heart! I NOW always try to wait 24 hours before letting it spew out!

I say better safe than sorry with stuff like that, you still have the support of the community without a thread.
 
Well I didn't see that you had posted anywhere else (now I have) and I was thinking "WOW who is this stranger that came on saying I better get this stuff off because it can be used against me." Now I'm laughing about it. I also noticed that my website was viewed over 400 times that night, when normally it's about 40 views. I was thinking "OMG who is checking this out?!?" Not that I don't want people checking out the site, but it was unusual and I panicked. I don't like to be in the spotlight about anything negative!!!!!!!!
 
We are the community and we do support her. Thanks for making my commitment to the teachers and our community even stronger. I worked for a very big government contractor for 24 years and we had the same problem. I many a times put my job and my reputation on the line - today I can stand up and be proud to say "I did something". Not all of us are willing to make change, I can look my self in the mirror. Safe is not always the best way to go - you never make change that way.

This is anything by negative and of course you know that! I think every one of your students should take a look at this thread. I have a very good feeling that they would come away with great respect for a teacher that would stand up for them and do what is right. Who is getting the raw end of this deal? I think the kids in our state have been stepped on enough - it's time to do something about it. There are way to many people like Is7corvete - sit back and be ran over - except behide a car or the computer.
 
That's how I feel too...but I'll fight that battle a bit once my tanks are up and running fully so I can show people the good from it. If I focus on this issue, I won't be focusing on my class and get done what we've be working on.

That great thinking and a very good plan - IMO. What do you have planned for the lighting? If I remember you could at this time get only 2 sets when 10 were needed, are they for fish only or mainly for corals and/or light loving livestock?
 
Well...I ended up getting 6 because DrFosters is having a pretty big sale on the retro's I want. It just leaves me with almost no reserves in the account, and we all know about about maintenance and tanks.
 
So are you saying that you can't accept donations? If I have lights and want to just give them to you, you can't use them?
 
Lady, dont know if u want them, but I have some fairly new 48 inch stock BLK fixtures that came with my tank. Each fixture only holds one bulb...They were used on my Fresh water cichlid tank for about 4 or 5 months. LMK, if that would work 4 u...

Some of the tanks will be fish/inverts only. Those fixtures will be great because I have a few NO that I can't use yet!
 
Looks like the lighting is covered for now from the great Tampa Bay community :D I guess I'll have to check out your web site and see what else is needed! What a great group :D
