Desalwii Acropora

Here is an older pic of mine. It is not a LA, it is an aquacultured piece. It is very hardy.

OH....it is on the bottom of the aquarium, gets lots of flow. It is under the center brace. The light above the brace is a 175 and I have 400's on either side so this coral gets some light from each.

i have placed mine all over my tank from top to bottom, shade to bright light and it does well anywhere

i have tubs crayola (which i think is a plana) and i have a desalwii... the difference to me is that the plana is shaggier ... they both table for me

also... IMO.. .the desalwii has more of that "deepwater" look to it with smoother branches

there are also a lot of (what seem to be) latistella out there labeled desalwii/plana

here is my "desalwii" from TOTM pics.... it grows pretty slow for me... in fact, i expect my little PurMon to pass it in growth over time

Thanks slojmn. It is one of my favs.

Kip my coral looks nothing like yours but mine does look exactly like the one listed on AIMS. Here is their pic. Whatever they are, they are both awesome. :)

looking at AIMs cross-references... maybe mine is rambleri..... who knows, IDing these things is just a crapshoot anyway... but i digress

nice pics all

I have had mine for a couple of years and one thing I have noticed about growth is that it shoots out similar to the AIMS pic you posted and then it starts to fuse together in the open areas. It is only easy to frag during the early phase of growing but I rarely frag it as I want it to be my big monster coral.

I will go check out the rambleri but I agree, its all a crapshoot.

Peter, my LA desalwii frag was a twin to your pic. My chips frag looks nothing like these desalwii pics. But I agree most of this id'ing at best a crapshoot.

Mine is directly under a 400 watt SE Reeflux 10K. 6" under the water surface. Bulbs are 18" above the water.

Picture is from June 06, I need to upload a newer one. Coral is much darker purple and green now.

Beautiful piece for sure. Makes me want to get radiums to pull out the colors in some of my pieces. That piece just freaking glows.

What an awesome looking coral Marshal. Next time I get to Paso would enjoy checking out your tank again. Maybe get a few frags from you like last time, Gary

Thanks guys, actually the radiums have been replaced with the 2nd gen Reeflux 10ks. I keep forgeting to change my sig line.

Gary, you're more than welcome anytime. Things have changed alot since the last time you were here. I forgot you were in HVAC. Should have called you before I dropped that huge chunk of change on my new FAU. :sad2:

i have a frag from maximus i got about a year ago, it looks like CAreefer's but smaller. the only pics i have are dominated by the brown polyps

Wayne, the two pics above are roughly 8 months apart. That particular piece has also been fragged about half a dozen times from the underside. So maybe should be 25% bigger? It's probably 5" in diameter currently.
