designer cardinals possible?

This may be a stupid question but.... is it possible to mix say a pajama cardinal and a bangaii cardinal to get some kind of super cool morph? I wonder what they would look like. I'm just curious because I have a pair of clowns I hope to breed and I will be doing cardinals as well if I'm any good at it. I thought it would be cool to make designer cardinals. So what do you guys think? Is it possible?

The question wasn't stupid. Unfortunately, I think that the two cardinals can't breed together because
A) they don't belong to the same genus, and therefore can't provide viable offspring (Sphaeramia X Pterapogon=probably not)
B) how would you pair them together?
make sure to start your food cultures early!

Sounds like a good idea though! Are you planning on breeding the "regular" clowns? What about the cardinalfish?

The clowns I have paired up are still young, but one is a proaquatics black misbar (who has three stripes but none make make it to the belly) and a regular oscellarous. Figured they would make for some cool babies. I might get some maroons in the future.

Perhaps cardinals could be bred for, say, less black? Eventually you could end up with all-silver cardinals.

Now that is a cool idea! When I go picking cardinals I will be very selective according to coloration. I could have all black or all silver! That could take a few years, but it will be cool to try.

You could go for 'starry night' cardinals, black with tiny bits of silver.
Now, I've seen a species of black cardinalfish, but it was kind of a dull black. Baggais have such a nice luster, and their colors are so pure... They'd be beautiful as just one color. The silver ones would look like they're made of metal.
Ooh- "ebony" and "platinum", perhaps?

my bangaii breed every couple of weeks, pretty regularly and reliably. not quite as much so as my clowns, its still pretty consistant. of course my bangaii are terrible parents, and it seems the eggs always vanish a week or so in. and fwiw, they dont have to be the same genus to breed. occ and maroon can cross and they are different genus. it is rarer to have intergenus hybrids than interspecies hybrids, but still possible

Do keep in mind that just because your BC's are doing that, it might not be the norm. This is why companies like ORA do not have a consistent supply of CB BC's. All in all, they are not known for consistency.

You'd probably want to get creative and shoot for something like a Panda Bangaii. I'd post photos here but it's get the thread closed. Just Google Panda Bangaii and photos will pop up. The idea would be to gradually increase the presence of black, much like an Onyx clown.

Panda bangaii looks cool.I just caught three Bc's this morning. They are in the sump waiting until lights out to catch the male and place him in the sump.

you could very likely hybridize orbic and pajama cardinals. although idk you would want to honestly. the orbic looks like a bangaii and a pj had a baby. pattern of the pj with the silver/black of the bangaii. look em up

My Banggai Cardinal pair spawn very consistently. My male receives a new clutch of eggs every 1.5 months like clockwork. He holds the eggs the entire duration (23-28 days). I'm actually on day 22 of the current batch in his mouth. Ready for release any day. Such a rewarding experience.
