DFason's 35g Shallow SPS Build

Wow. 100% reefcrest on a 35 gal? That's some flow you got going there. I only have mine at about 50% right now, but I also have a 6025 blowing along the back.

Great looking tank as well. I like how you spread out your corals so they have room to grow.

mskurdah - Thanks alot! I'm still only using point and shoot camera but I'm working on it.

jackblack - I dont have a 6025 in the back. I plan on buying a MP10 at the end of the summer to add some more random flow.

chem-e - I used a heavier grain of sand too. I was afraid of a sand storm but nothing moved!

If anyone is in the Chicago area I will playing a big paintball tournament thurs-sun. Come check it out!

My tank is looking extra awesome today. I have been fighting some odd slimey algae the last week and I think I found the answer. My skimmer was not making the bubbles it used too. So with me having a day off I got frustrated and cleaned it all. Now its making bubbles like I've seen on BK's and i-Techs. I am once again happy.

I picked up a couple things today too. Lugols, tiny blue clove's, superman, Tyree watermelon, sand sifting star fish and some more snails. I know people are iffy about the star fish but I had one in my last tank and I think they work awesome :)

I am going to do post some growth shots tonight but I figured I would get these up. I cant tell you how happy I am about my tank now. Things are going to look only better with the skimmer preforming again and I have just started dosing....

Vodka/MB7
Lugols
2 Part

So I will have before and after pictures. I am keeping a really detailed log too. Best of all I am testing my parameters now! Since day one I have never tested....well on to the pictures! :D

Thanks reefer - the setosa, efflo, undata and caps are all growing quick.

The tank is not rimless, it has a eurobrace on it. But it is shallow :)

I just started dosing too, so I am excited to see what happens!

Your system keeps looking better and better.

With MB7/vodka you should notice much clearer water within the first few days and more skimmate production after about two weeks. Make sure and seed your system with MB7 for 2 weeks before starting up vodka.

Good luck! :D

Thanks Sunny!

I've been seeding it and starting to use the Lugols too. I cant wait to see the difference. I will be taking tons of photos.

Overall the tank has been up for JUST 4 months. I just started MB7/vodka this week. Hope it only makes things better!

-Dave

Leonardo_ - Thanks a ton! It means a lot coming from you! The Apogon are doing well. I only have 2 left but I have had them for all 4 months now. I had 10 but it seems like they are sensitive to everything. I may try out another 7-8 and see if I can get them to hold strong. Since I am starting to dose vodka/MB7 I hope to be able to feed more. Here's a picture of all 10 at there prime. I had all of them for over a month!

I think a large amount in your tank would look AWESOME!

Thanks again for stopping by!

When looking at the pic of your sump, it leaves me a little confused. Is the tank overflow going to a pump then a valve then to the skimmer? If so, I'm not sure of the purpose of the pump in that location or the valve for that matter. Or maybe I'm just not looking at it correctly.....(probably the case!)

I know it looks a little crazy....

The tank goes into the first chamber which has a Eheim 1048 that feeds my H&S. I have to run a valve on it because at full blast it would feed to much water to it. Then I have another chamber that the skimmer's output drain into. Then there is a large chamber where the skimmer is and the return pump ( Eheim 1250 ).

I am building a new DIY sump that will just be open with a Tunze 6045 and the skimmer external.

Hope this helps.

-Dave

Thanks BucNtears.

I'm look saving for a MP10 and a reefkeeper until the end of the summer. I would like to place the MP10 in the back just to add some real random flow.

-Dave

Well I had to do some aptasia slaying and took a few good top down pictures. I think a few of them turned out really well.

I was drooling today looking at the new Alpha Cone 170. I think if I could afford one I would get it, Red Dragon Pump, cone design and small. :)

After seeing my buddies ReefKeeper Lite, I may have to pick one up fast!

I'm not sure if its the MB7 or what but the colors and everything have been popping!
