Did Atlantis Close Down ?

A friend of mine told me that Atlantis on Route 51 looked like it was closed for business. Although i have had varying levels of satisfaction in dealing with Gary and Gary's Mom, I was planning on stopping in after staying away for a year.

Guess I'll have to go to Wet Pets if it's true

While I will agree that there were problems with the store, it is bad for the hobby when a place closes down.

yes- competition keeps other stores "honest". Although the store did have problems- as pointed out. Options are always good things.

All I know is Wet Pets needs a shop in the shouth hills

Oddball aquatics is going to be expanding their saltwater section. I had them special order me a midas blenny a few weekd ago, and it came at a good price and looked great right out of the shipping container

I realize Gary wasn't always at his store and alot of people didn't like him much, but I really never had a problem dealing with him. I've known him for quite a few years and he has helped me plenty of times in the past. He would always tell you if you were planning on coming down to call first. Most of his time was spent doing maintenance on peoples tanks, and after he had a problem with an employee that he had covering the store it made it difficult for him to recover. My 54 corner was purchased from him, and it cost 60 bucks less than what Elmer's was selling it for. I'll still miss having the store in the area.

When I got into this hobby 15 years ago I got a 29 gallon setup free from a nephew. I was hooked and wanted a 55gallon. Gary was the only one that took the time to talk to me and explain things even though I didn't spend any money in his store for like 9 mos. When I did finally pull the trigger on a 55 gallon setup he was the only one that didn't try to sell me every piece of equipment on the shelf. I got everything off of him including one of his HOB filters. That thing worked like a charm. He could have had a gold mine on 51 if he hired somebody and ran it correctly. I agree about the store, I can't count the number of times I went in and came out empty handed because his mother had to check on the price. Sad to see the store go.

It is in the south hills!

I know what you mean though. That area of the south hills is underserved when it comes to saltwater. If oddball expands like they are supposed to that should alleviate the problem.

Our section of South Hills not yours. We live on the "other side of the tracks"...:lmao: :frog:

Thanks Ray...the process has been really slow and frustrating. As for the location, my tenant broker is currently in negotiations with two different sites. Not saying where yet though. ;) I don't want to jinx it with the lease negotiations. I am hoping to have everything finalized by mid-August with the lease site and bank. Site build out will start immediately thereafter. I tentatively have 8-10 weeks penciled in with interior construction before opening sometime late October to early November. At least that is the plan as of now. I will try to get out more info to PMAS as I know more but I just wanted to give everyone a small bit of hope for another store in the area.

You know if you need some help, you can just ask!!! Some of us are even in construction. :D

I am really excited for you Craig, and for the pittsburgh area possibly getting a dedicated SW store!!

Did you ever get a chance to get up to salty critter in Cleveland or phishy business in Columbus? Those are both excellent examples of SW only establishments.

I would definatley help when possible too
