Did i choose the wrong tang or what..

I have a 150 G tank and i had a yellow tang with his budy a Foxface both quite happy, with the rest of 6 chromis and a blenny. Posting on the net and asking i was told that i could add to it and even another tang would be ok, if i add it with other fish as well so i did. a flasher wrass and a six line wrass, and i took a convic tang with me . My Yellow blew is top, Now since i've seen tanks with multiple tangs in it , i assume that's a ajustment phase, or am i wrong with this. How do the people with 4-5 or 6 tangs do it in a 90 gallons like i've seen on You Tube, put valium in the water because i'm about to reach for the bottle myself lol its not pretty. Wow , he's usually so pleasant now he's Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Well, a couple of things...

If anything, the yellow should've been the last tang added. But, if you end up adding a tang after the yellow, it's best to rearrange your rock-work to remove any territory that the yellow has established. Also try to keep the lights low for a couple of days so the new tang can settle in...

My yellow terrorizes any newcomers, tang or not. My last go round, my QT tank was right next to my DT. The fish were able to see each other for the entire duration of the QT period, and the YT had a chance to get used to the newcomer before I added it. I was glad to see that there was absolutely no aggression when I added the newcomer...

Best of luck. Not trying to scare you, but I've seen tangs kill newcomers before. Not all the time, but it has happened...

Edit: When my yellow tang does harass newcomers, it normally only lasts a few days to a week...

I have 6 in one tank. I got 3 through qt & they all went in together. Never really an issue. Then I qt'd the next 3 together & added those all at once. It was wwlll for the first hr or so but they called down & have been good ever since.

Yellows they say are very aggressive & should be last. Mine was in my first group of 3 but he didn't give the new guys too much problems.

Though yellow tangs can be aggressive, they are hardly the worst offenders in this department, as achilles, clowns, sohals and powder blues are definitely more aggressive.

Usually it works itself out in a few days or so. If there is a noticeable size difference this can help too. You can also try the mirror technique, because if the yellow thinks there is another yellow in the tank that will upset him more than the convict.

I have a Naso, sohal, chevron, 2 purples, 2 blues and a yellow. I avoided a war somehow. I hope the aggression dies down fast.

In what size tank?
Unless it's pretty big the aggression usually increases rather than dying down especially in sohals.

Well tonight some friends came over we've put a mirror in it calm things down and the convic seems to face the yellow tang more. They think he'll be ok in a few days. In any case if too much stress is going on one of the guys wants him so i'm good with it ; i'll keep the other two wrasses and he'll be in a 180 g, thanks for your time guys much appreciated.

In future, if you place a QT tank next to your DT being able to see the next addition usually means there is much less, or no, aggression.

I have found the use of an acclimation box to be an effective way to mange the first few days in the tank, and probably the period of most aggression. Yellow has become the alpha tang in my tank, which rather surprised me because it is neither the largest (that distinction goes to a regal/hippo) nor the one considered to be the most aggressive (a purple). I'm about to add an Achilles that has been in QT for 12 weeks so will see how that goes.

220. Sohal is pretty chill, about 10 inches. Naso is extremely peaceful and he is about 14 inches. I have the 2 blues that are about 5 inches they argue with each other but it is rare. The purple pair have always been together one is about 6 in and the other 4in. The yellow is about 4 inches too.

I will say I nip ANY aggression in the bud quickly by hanging pics of larger same species tangs as the aggressor. My sohal chilled out pretty quick. I think he knows if he gets out of line the big sohals come back. Lol

Some pics of my tang gang

LSU: You have allot of fish that are going to get very large, even for a 220g. I have a 225g, and wouldn't dream of that...

What's your filtration system like? You must have a monster skimmer. Planning on an upgrade anytime in the future?

Day two

Day two

End of day two ; well things have calm down considerably . I came back this afternoon and everybody is swimming , Mulder Fox, my Foxface, i named him after you know who, is even comming out and swimming with "Zee" my convic, and Mellow yellow , the upset Tang got is name finally, is still wary but not aggressive anymore , he meet him but just turns away, they both do . And the other fish who hid while the aggression was going on came out now; so things are settling, it seems. I'm giving myself a week before giving him away to another friend who would take him in his tank. Took that to name my main characters lol. In any case my fish load is full. I'm done its enough for this tank. My corals as well . I'm almost done too, after that let it grow.

That's ok. To each his own right. They are all very healthy and don't seem stressed. I would absolutely move them to a bigger tank if and whwn they need it. Not in this hobby to torture fish lol.

I have a huge skimmer and I skim heavily. With the exception of the big Naso and one of the blues the fish have all been together for three years or more. They were part if an established system I bought. The smaller blue was in the tank I upgraded from and I threw her in when I added the fish to the system after it was all set up again. The big Naso was added after that and has never been aggressive. The sohal is by far the worst but like I said he calms right down when the pics go up. Surprisingly the chevron comes in second in the aggressive department. He is terrible.

Convicts are very mellow and easily bullied, at least in my experience. It should work out given time though, provided you got a healthy convict (which is almost impossible it seems).

Well this one has a great stamina came directly into my hands no traning, and he's giving , Mellow yellow (the Yellow Tang) a run for his money. Facing him . He goes and eats right besides him and don't let him intimidate himself really, he runs away when chased but other than that really enjoyable to see him picking at everything around him . Eating is a good sign. I've got food pellets for them, 5 kinds of dried algaes that i coat with a few drops of garlic, 10 species of macro algaes i can give them from my refugium, Mysis and spirulina foods which i alternate during the day. So i get them occupied and in two days its much better . Hopping by the end of the week they should have settle down if not friends. The vet biologist at are clinic told me that if he survives the next few weeks he'll be good and they'll eventually get along. At the store the guy said if he was late giving him his meal he would splash the lights lol , and he did here too lol too funny.

It sounds like you got a really good one then, I would be surprised if it didn't resolve itself. If it gets too bad you could always get an acclimation box.
