Difference between 9005, 9010 and 9015

It seems to me that all theese skimmers are the same exept for the skimmer cup. Why do they, according to Tunze perform som differently?

How high does it have to be in order to replace the skimmercup (total height including the skimmer)? The space is quite limited...

I have a 80g system with mostly sps currently running with only an AquaC Remora Pro. How much better are the tunze skimmers?
Any toughts on running the tunze skimmer with the remora as well?

The 9005 actually has a weaker motor, it is a lower wattage smaller impeller motor.

The 9010 and 9015 are the same except for the cup. The bigger cup allows a longer foam column reaction time and more air to be injected.

I have not compared them side by side but perhaps someone can chime in.

Usually using 2 skimmers of different sizes doesn't work very well, one will beat out the other and remove anything that could have been skimmed out by the other. It can work if they are placed as far apart as possible and the performance is reasonably equal.

I've tried having both the 9015 and the AquaC Urchin Pro in the same sump. The 9015 typically out competed the Urchin Pro both in volume and darkness of the skimmate.

I've since then removed the Urchin Pro as it was noisier and failed to produce dark enough skimmate.

Also, the large cup on the 9015 is nice for vacation purposes.

I own a 9010 and have it in a new 220 gallon tank with a light amount of fish (for now). Am I going to outgrow this skimmer when my tangs grow and I get more fish? Can i upgrade it to the 9015 to solve the problem?

Jeff

You can upgrade, you may not necessarily out grow it though if you grow some macro algaes and run some carbon and phosphate remover, assuming this is a fish only or soft coral tank.

Roger, I normally run a large fuge and and a phosban reactor and I find that I normally dont fill a skimmer cup as fast as others tend to. I use carbon every once in awhile when I notice the water looking "dingy". Carbon use scares me and I am not so sure it is needed unless absorbing colors and toxins.

The key with carbon is to use small amounts and change them regularly, for your tank I would use 1-2 cups and change it every week and you should be in good shape. The dangers are when the carbon gets saturated or when the water suddenly becomes clear and the light becomes more intense as a result and can cause bleaching, consistant small doses is the ideal.

I am always afraid of leaving it in too long I guess.
Is the difference in skimming capabilities between the 9010 and the 9015 just the amount of skimmate that they can hold in a container or the amount that they can produce period?

Jeff

Because the riser tube is taller you can open the venturi further so far more air is injected.

You can open the air flow up to full throttle so you get a higher air volume. The foam is denser and the dwell/contact time is better as a result.

My Urchin pro is a bit upgraded. I use a NewJet 3000l/h (about 750g/h) which gives me a lot more skimmate than I would get with the recommended pump. I'm considering using an even larger pump (5000l/h) instead of getting the Tunze. Just trying do do some research before I make up my mind.
Did you run yours with the rio 1400?

Noise is not a problem since my stand is insulated with thick insulation to prevent noise.
