Dinoflagellates.

I buy phyto culture disks from Florida Aqua Farms, and usually buy ready-to-use from Algae Barn (it is very fresh). If I'm in a pinch I'll just buy some PhytoFest.

I buy pods from a local reefer that has really good pricing. I'm also culturing copepods and amphipods.

My Phyto was from ReefBoost UK and pods from Ebay Reefphyto pod shots, the only ones described as benthic as it seems we can't easily get the ones mentioned here in the UK. I can't give you the link as my stupid tablet won't let me.
Day three of dead Dino's, partial lights again, 10 micron sock with hardly anything in it and blooming heck no sign of any live Dino's anywhere. Still some grey dead stuff lurking about but nothing on power heads, no string on outlet mesh. Nothing brown anywhere, absolutely nothing still on cheato which has been unheard of for weeks! Nada! First bit of green algae on back of glass, again not seen any in weeks. Will try and get rid of a bit more of the 'dust' tonight maybe get a tooth brush to it again as this is pointless while live Dino's as it just comes straight back. Another dose of phyto, few more home grown pods and some more Ultra Bac. Tomorrow it's lights back to normal and fingers crossed! I do have something else up my sleeve as the final nail in the coffin but again reluctant to use it, but just to add insult to injury I think my coral beauty may have white spot but it has been really hard to see as it rarely stays in one place long enough if it has it isn't bad but a lot of people recommend polyp lab medic which they reckon is actually hydrogen peroxide so might use it and feel a bit safer (although possibly a bit stupid) using that as per instructions than out of a bottle from the chemist. But holding off as I avoid any chemicals if I can help it, still dosing garlic and selcon just to see. I am thinking that with all the siphoning and cleaning it has been stressed out too much and when I stop it might be ok, that's if it is WS.

Dinoflagellates.

I just ordered some $8 photo off eBay and grew my own. I never added pods. With phyto dosing ur pods just multiply on their own

I ordered these. Currently I;m waiting on some sort of food for phytoplankton so that I can culture my own... buying them is so expensive imo apparently this product:

can be used to grow phyto for months and months. I will continue to do thiis regimen of dosing pods, phyto, coral snow bacterial products etc. etc. until I feel comfortable. I might do a water change in a week or so just to test the waters and see if the dinos come back so far theyre 99% gone. no more visible brown goo.

do you shake your phyto culture? I started one but it keeps settling... or I lose a lot of water and have to top off all the time?

It's still green, but I don't have a phyto rythm that works, so I keep buying more fresh stuff because I'm not sure my homemade brew is good

I have a large container... Didn't think about it. May need to redesign.

I have some settling. I also have clumps that rotate in the soup. And I also have sheets that form and then float. I blast a lot of air through it.

Phyto needs air pump, with no air stone.

Does this also apply to phytofeast?
I've kept mine closed in fridge and still smells ok.

i really don't know much about Phytofeast...is that that ReefNutrition stuff? is it live phyto? i vaguely remember someone saying it was some form of concentrated phyto in stasis but i have no idea what that even means

i've only ever bought the live kind and every single place says to store refrigerated with the top off or open to allow fresh oxygen exchange and to also shake the bottle every few days so it doesn't settle

Here's my phyto tank of shame :(

See the swirling clumps and floating sheets?

Maybe I should just put some in the tank to see what happens.

I would try to pull out a clump or a bit of the sheet, to see what it might be, but adding it to the tank might be safe enough. A coarse netting might catch a lot of the debris, though, and should be easy to try.
