dippin in jelly

I don't know if they're still around, but I was going to try to catch a couple local moon jellies. I bought a jellyfish tank so I thought I'd give it a go. I suppose I should start trying to hatch the brine shrimp first.

Hung out with Chris and Missy last night and they brought home this beast. Lions mane jelly, about 8" mantle and his tentacles would hang out over 14"+. Really cool animal to watch. I had my face glued to the glass for the better part of an hour

Yikes! That looks scarey. My desktop tank comes tomorrow. I'm hoping I can still find some moon jellies nearby. I have a few college kids that are going kayaking next week to look for them in shallow waters. :)

Thanks for the advice. The kids are out there a lot with their kayaks and claim they've seen them, so I'm hoping they can grab one or two without a lot of trouble. I suggested a bucket because I think a net would hurt them. Any suggestions?

I would use either a bucket or fish bag to collect them with. I am going kayaking myself later this week, if I see any I'll try to grab them for you.

Just googled sea walnuts. They look pretty interesting. Can I keep them too or do I have to choose between moon jellies and sea walnuts?

tough question to answer, I did for a short. Of time but walnuts need like 0 flow. They are also very delicate and will eat each other

I don't think I could handle watching them eat each other! I'll stick with the moon jellies. I was going to use water from my fish tank, but now I wonder if I shouldn't just use ocean water. What do you use?

P.S. Thanks for answering my questions. :)

I use my water. Moon j ellys will take reef temp if you buy them. Moonjellys come from all parts of the world. So tropical ones are ideal. Hook it up with your reef and all you need to do is feed them. Bbs is a must.

Thanks. I have a BBS hatchery, a source for adult brine shrimp, and something called premium golden pearls, which I plan to use for food. If this doesn't work, I can always put plastic jellyfish in the tank. :)

you can't feed adult brine shrimp, they will eat your moon jellyfish
