diseased xenia from school

i took a diseased xenia home from school today so i could, hopefully nurse it back to health.

it has the yellow legions i have read about, but nobody seems to know if they are bad or not. anyway it is going into quarantine.

i am thinking of fragging the non legioned part off, only problem is the coral has withered to about the size of a half dime. should/can i risk fragging realy tiny pieces off, or should i hopew for the best and leave it?

what should i dose? i will dose some zooxanthelae promoter, and was wondering what else i should do? these yellow legions are new and scary for me, i'll post a pic i got from a nother web site..

thanks.

for some reason it wont post but this is the link http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f16/xenia-lesion-112687.html#post956897

thanks again

well, it withered away. it was too far gone, though i still would like to know what i should have done, so i will know if this happens again in the future.

with 59 views, i would have hoped some one could have told me somethiung. other than how funny it is the school coral is dieing, thats a might sadistic in my oppinion.

Odd, I have never heard of growths on xenia. I would not be surprised if it grew back from the spot on the rock. Really, the only way I have ever seen xenia die is from drowning in it's own slime. Some people say they die from old age if not fragged enough, but I don't know about that. Also, you can frag very small xenia, they will even grow if you cut off every single polyp and let them settle on something they can attach to.

I suppose you could have tried an iodine dip if it really was some sort of disease. Really, I expect the trip home to be what killed it, they slime up in their bags.

could be, but i did use a portable airaetor to add oxygen to the water every so often, and saw no excess slime. but you never know.

the nitrates were realy high at school, and it was orriginaly 5-6 inches tall, wound up being half an ich before it died, only one tentacle sticking out from the yellow lesions.

kind of gross realy.

thyanks again, i will know for next time

thanks though.
