Disposal of Metal Halide Bulbs?

How do you dispose of your metal halide bulbs? Is there a problem with placing them in the trash (i.e. they leach toxic chemicals)?

many home improvement stores have recycle boxes for flourescent bulbs, i would ask them.

They contain mercury, and should be properly disposed of. Usually the bulb manufacturers will take them back to recycle, if you can't find any place locally.

Lowes Home depot, even ACE hardware if you have one has the facility to get rid of them.

My county has toxic waste disposal days once a month or so where you can bring old bulbs, motor oil, etc. Maybe yours has something like that also.

I never thought about Halides. Guess I need to stop tossing them. Bulbs should say that they need to be recycled.
