Let Me Know What You Think

Nice pics

Did some diving up that way a couple of years ago when a friend was living in Gloucester. Good area for diving :)

Thanks Bill, The diving is pretty great up here. Who did you dive with? I dove with Cape Ann divers. Did you do boat dives or beach dives?

I did beach dives with a couple of locals I met up with via Scuba Board. Got my tanks filled at Cape Ann Diver's shop. Seemed like a good bunch of people running the shop, and I heard good things about their boat operations.

The temp was around 55 degrees. I thought it was pretty nice compared to my deep dive on the Chester poling wreck when the temp was 43 degrees

Jarrett shark, all these animals are temperate animals so they thrive in these cold waters.

Moray Keeper, I thought the same thing when i went back and took a good look at the pics and i think you are right.

I wonder what type of fish that is on the bottom right in the picture just before the lobster pic. What type of egg you think that mermaids purse is? probably a skate or dogfish?

I'm pretty positive a mermaids purse is a skates egg.

I know this because when i was in second grade i went to the NEAQ to see the giant octopus because it was my favorite animal and it was missing. So i cried and then helped them look for it. We could not find it and the aquarist in charge of the temperate habitats like the octopus and the skates and the cold water anemones asked me if i would like to see a different octopus. I said yes so they took me and my parents in the back and i got to literally play with and touch an elderly octopus and even got sprayed by it. Long story short, after that they gave me and my parents a free behind the scenes tour and i got to hold a mermaids purse which they said as a skates egg. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

Can't really see enough of the fish to be sure, but it's probably a Cunner...aka Bergall.

Both skate and dogfish species commonly found in New England waters lay very similar looking egg cases. Makes it kind of hard to just look at the case and determine which is which.
