Ive heard Divers Den (live aqua) was purchased by PETCO. Is that correct, Is the quality of service still the same? I havent purchased from them in along time.

Yes, and I think so. I just had 2 orders delivered in negative temps that arrived around 73 degrees.

Like mentioned above Petco bought LA/DD but here is the thing. LA fish come direct from Quality Marine and DD fish are picked by Kevin Kohen (not sure who it will be in the future) and the sit at the facility in Wisconsin for a minimum of two weeks before being put on sale. Petco doesn't have a great track record as far as stores go but Petco.com has much better reviews. All fish from Petco.com come from tropical fish international which is also in southern Cali. Point is Petco never touches the fish so if there are problems with fish it's the wholesalers fault. If the customer service is the issue well you might as well start getting use to it...

Kevin Kohen has stated that there are no plans to change the way Diver's Den and LiveAquaria operate under Petco. I've received livestock from them recently, and the quality and packaging was every bit as good as I've experienced in the past.

With all acquisitions they push out people that aren't theirs... IE Kevin Kohen. He has no choice but to say that everything will remain the same, if he said anything differently the PR backlash would be devestating to Petco and LA/DD

Time will tell. Having managed through several acquisitions myself, I can say with certainty that not ALL acquisitions result in a wholesale layoff of the acquired employees. Redundant functions like finance, operations etc. - sure. But, in many cases key personnel are retained to ensure continued success of the acquired business. DD is a unique business and IMO it would be short-sighted for Petco to subsume it and replace the people who made it successful. So again...we'll see. :)

Usually true^ but not to say that if a position is highly profitable to the company(Kevin) that they won't keep it the same for a while.

My last order with DD was horrible. They really messed up and shipped my anemones at an inopportune time after telling me they would be holding them until the weather cleared over the phone. They sat at UPS for four days and were completely disintegrated upon arrival. Of course they refunded my entire bill, but the cold automated response I received through email didn't help. I really wanted an explanation as to why they shipped them when I told them not to. I would have rathered a refund than for them to ship them to their death.

I'm hoping it was just miscommunication, DD is one of my favorite places to window shop and buy from. I have never had an issue with DD until this experience, even after petco bought LA. Don't make any conclusions based on my singular experience; I'm personally going to give them another chance since we're all human and accidents do happen.

I found out I have a 2 year old $80 account credit at LA, so here's hoping the quality is still there

Let's discuss reef keeping and marine fish here, and perhaps put brakes on the speculation regarding employment, corporate mergers, etc.

Closed. We have a Vendor Experiences forum that is better suited for these types of threads.
