In Memoriam
I was in the Pennekamp State Sanctuary yesterday, Nov. 13th and had a chance to snorkel Banana Reef.
It has this name because apparently it looks like a bana from the sky. I saw many Queen angelfish, big, colorful parrotfish, a bluehead wrasse, a puffer, some 4 feet barracuda, but the most impressive were the corals.
I saw a brain coral that was bigger than my car - and I drive a Subaru Outback wagon!
I saw seafans everywhere, gorgonians, but few hard corals, although they were there if you look carefully. The water was a bit chilly, 79F, but the visibility was over 40 feet. You could see most of the stuff from the boat.
On the way back, we actually saw 5-6 dolphins for a few minutes as they like to hang out in the wake of the boat. It was quite a sight.
After seeing what a real real reef looks like in person, I am more and more inclined to give proper care to my tanks.
I highly recommend the trip to anyone who happens to go down south.
