DIY 48" LED Array/T-5 Combo Full Spectrum with StormX

Hello all,


First of all i want to say that this build would not have been possible without the wealth of knowledge available on this forum. I would also like to state that I do not have a fancy degree in engineering, or any other background so this build will have flaws, probably could have been done in better ways or cost less. But never the less i really enjoy making LED arrays for my tanks and improving designs with every build. At the moment i have a basic 2/1 ratio CW to RB array on my 72 bow. These LED's have been running for around 8 years without fault, Built i feel with improving technology it was time to make some upgrades.

I decided to attempt an LED hybrid by utilizing 2 T5's along with the LED's. My idea was to help eliminate some shadowing, and also fill some voids in the overall color spectrum. I do not intend to rely on these for any reasonable PAR value. I will sytart with a rough materials list

- Odyssea 48" T5 fixture ( mainly for housing)
- 2 meanwell lrs-350-48 ( i wanted to reduce the load of only 1 power supply)
- Heatsink USA 3.5" x 46" heatsink
- Stormx controller
- Coralux PWM fan controller
- Coralux 6UP board
- Coralux 4UP board ( i did not know about the 10UP board at the time)
- 4x 1000H LDD
- 3X 500H LDD
- 3x PWN fans to replace stock
- ATI purple plus and ATIAquablue Special
- A mixture of CREE/SEMILED/LUXEON LED's ( Break-down to follow)
- Various connectors, acrylic, fans, wires, etc...

I decided to utilize the original endcaps and ballast for 2 out of the 4 T5's and the timer. Evertthing else was gutted.

CHANNEL 1
- 8 XP-E2 Neutral White

CHANNEL 2
- 4 XP-E2 Warm white & 4 XP-E2 Cool white

CHANNEL 3
- 15 XP-E2 Royal Blue

CHANNEL 4
-4 Rapidled Ultramarine Royal Blue & 4 XP-E2 Blue

CHANNEL 5
- 8 SEMILED Violet UV (410-420 NM) & 4 SEMILED UVA (390-400 NM)


CHANNEL 6
-4 Rapidled Infrared ( 840-870 NM) & 4 Semileds DEEP Infrared (945-955 NM)

CHANNEL 7
-2 Luxeon Cyan ( 505 NM) & 4 XP-E2 Amber (590 NM) & 2 XP-E2 Green (530 NM)

CHANNEL 9
- 3 PWM fans( controlled similar to ramping LEDS)

T5
- 1 Aquablue Special & 1 ATI purple plus ( Subject to vary)


My intent with this build was to Mimic as closely as i could the Orphek V4. I tried to utilize similar spectrum's and arrays.

Sorry for some poor photography, I should have turned the lights down even lower

I am still waiting on a few parts to close everything up, And still need to learn the Stormx controller. I wanted to use a nice acrylic project box for all the components but could not really fond one that fit my needs. I will be borrowing my brothers PAR meter and hope to get some extensive readings.

FYI... You should either pay for or drop photobucket as we cannot see your images due to them now charging for 3rd party hosting..

aaah, crap- Thats a shame this took a while to put together
I "think" you can fix it yourself by editing your posts and appending "~original" (without the quotes to your links..

Yep.. Tried it myself and it works..
I have requested that the mods delete my 2 posts so yours stays clean of my instructions of how to fix these photobucket posts..

Very nice. I thought about doing a diy led but for what I wanted I could buy a reef breeders for $20 more.
