DIY Bulkheads

The Teel pump looks similar to an Iwaki or Little Giant. I originally bought it 10-yrs ago for use in a microbrewery. However, I never used it. A few months ago, I ran across it in it's original box. It had all the manuals with it and in addtion to being rated for high temps and various chemicals, it was also rated for various salt solutions. It's supposed to be quiet but I've not used it yet so I don't really know. It's an industrial pump, so quiet is relative. Since it was an industrial pump, it didn't come with a traditional cord. It could be hardwired but I'm going to use a 3-prong cord. It also has a Dayton speed controller to control the speed. This pump was designed to move hot liquid but it only moves a few hundred gallons per hour. I'm out of town at the moment but I believe it moves about 300g/hr at 6ft. I'll be using it as part of a closed loop system. I bought it at Grainger.

I bought the 6x6 of gasket material from Depot and I use the grey electrical conduit. They aren't tapered threads, like the white PVC, and tighten far better....

ill have to play with this ideal real quick and probably return the 11 bulkheads i just spent alot of money on yesterday and the other 3 i was getting tomorrow

Couldn't you also use the pond liner rubber material they sell to cut your own gaskets? I thought about that when I got a bulkhead over the internet that didn't come with a gasket. Rather than send it back for a stupid gasket, the company just refunded the price of that one bulkhead and I went and bought a 1'x1' square of pond liner.

Most all your hardware stores carry gasket material in various thicknesses. If your anal, pound a cookie cutter through it for a perfect circle.

I have used a "Lavatory Pop-up Drain Gasket" Made by Danco. I use it on a 1" Male White PVC and Female Gray 1" Elbow Combo(These were used for over flow). It is 2" OD x 1 1/4" ID x 3/8. Part #80346. I found it at lowes for about .97.

It is black in color and one side is flat and the other side is rounded. If you take an exacto knife and slice the rounded part off (being very careful to cut level and not in a wavy line then you will have 2 parts. The rounded piece goes on the inside of the glass w the rounded side facing the glass and the flat side goes against the outside of the glass. When you tighten the rounded part if pushed against the cut whole and seals it. I will try and post a pic.

Sorry for the crappy pic. The end of the female fitting is barbed. I started out using clear rubber hose for the drain hose but it wouldnt hang straight down so I cut it off leaving about 1" on the barbs. Then I got some 1 1/4" swimming pool hose at lowes and cut the end off the hose. Now the hose fit on the barb perfectly and hung down straight. The pool hose was $11.97 for 25 ft. and alot easier to use than PVC.
