DIY Chemical Test Kits

I was curious if anyone has had any experience trying to develop there own chemical test kits. If anyone has any info or links that would be great.

Alkalinity is about the only one that you'd likely be successful with. I show how to do it here with a pH meter and a standard acid solution:

hey randy thanks for the help. I found a book out there but it seems a little to pricey that seems to have alot of useful info and I am hoping i can track a copy down at my university library.

I haven't read it, but I expect that you need to buy many chemicals to run tests.

well i just got the book i had to do an inner library request. Its actually pretty informative, and gives alot of detail. I am feeling pretty optmisitic now that i have this book. I have already setup a DIY Colorimeter and just tweaking it as we speak.

depending on what regeants i can get my hands on the easiest will pretty much dictate what test i do
