Diy led

what dimi
First off for your tank size I would only do about 48 LEDs and I would use 4 dimmable Meanwell drivers. Its very important to be able to adjust the lighting, trust me on that. You will be using less LEDs but you will be running at full power if you need to. You will also need one dimming kit from rapidled.

As far as the lenses it will depend on how high the fixture will be from the tank. If its going to be say about 14"-16" above the tank Iwould go with 60 degree lenses.

Good luck with your DIY

what dimming kit?

many have orderd less than 100 each just shipping still going to cost the same , remember to order extra , and look into the meanwell ballast u will be way more pleased with the out come

When I placed my order last week they said they will only do the 18,000k and royal blues of lots of 100. Even though I only need 80 RB I still had to order 100. I hope you don't run into this same issue.

Yup I already have mine too.

Been following the thread since Jae started it.

My LED's have arrived and the heat sink from Heatsink USA will be here tomorrow. My 300 gallon tank exploded a week ago and members of my reef club donated me a 210. This changed my heat sink set up but they had no problem changing my order for me, I am now getting 2 8.46"X71" lengths.

Called metals plus and they confirmed. I asked them if they knew anyone else in the area that would carry the same products and they said ALRO. There is one in tampa but they will not do custom cutting. You have to buy the complete piece. Their facility in clearwater will do custom cuts but I don't know the specifics of the metal. I know that it is aluminum c-channel 2" can anybody give me more info on the metal? They said they had c-channel 2"w x 1.5"h.

i agree probably only need 48 if going all whites. Again, my 20x20x20 cube has 20 whites and 10 RB's.

Disagree on 4 drivers...2 will work...each one with 2 strings of 12 at 700ma...thats what I'm doing on that cube.

Rapid kit is nice but back-asswards with the cover design. i chucked the box and cover and used the components....easier than trying to get all the miscellaneous stuff together.

Glad you agree on the dimming...been trying to preach to everyone that will listen.

BMB I think having the dimming ability is a MUST for LEDs. If you can get away with using only 2 drivers thats even better.

Only point is be careful on that channel gang.
for people using C-Channel and the FEDY drivers no need to worry about heat problems. I'm running 84 LEDs of the 200 watt FEDY driver and I have zero heat issues. I tested the tempature on my C-channel and it was running between 78 and 84 degrees.

Im puttting in my order,

Order from Fendy:
60x 3w white 18000-20000K . Price is USD1.27/pc .
8x 3w Royal blue , 450-455nm, Price is USD2.29/pc .
80x degree lens Price is USD0.137/pc .
12x 3w blue , 460-470nm . Price is USD1.29/pc .
1x 200w power supply for 80 or 88 leds circuit . Price is USD39.9/pc

Order from Computer Store:
5x Arctic alumina

Order from HomeDepo
4 x 36" C Chanelle

My question is what degree optics should I get, Should i get the same degree optics for all the leds?

This will light up a 36"x30"x18"high tank. Do you guys think its over kill? Considering the powersupply isnt dimmable. Id really need a rough estimate from people who are actually useing these leds.

The tank will house mostly sps and some lps on the floor.

Just getting some oppnions before I put in the order.

look at my friends PAR readings 12" below the LEDs. He has a tank just a little smaller than yours with 48 LEDs. He has to run his whites like at 30% and RB at like 80% becuase corals were bleaching out.

Is that 1886 or 188.6? Hard to tell.

Also, what model apogee and sensor is that? The sensor that was brought to my house I thought was rather huge...do you know how large that one is approximately?
