DIY Mystery!

Ok, so I recently re-started my 180 gallon project after a 6+ year break (family, jobs, life, etc...). I am cleaning out my storage and I came across this piece. It's a 4" PVC couple, about 18" of pipe and an End-Cap. I have no clue what I was building with this thing. I know it wasn't a skimmer or reactor, it could it have been a silencer for my drain into my sump (which is super-loud at the moment) but I have no clue. Anyone have a guess? I'm all out.

Rain gauge?
container for holding arc welding sticks?
Sex toy?
Tootsie roll storage?
waterproof oreo container?

What you guys lack in helpfulness you almost make up in comedy....

I think it had something to do with silencing the drain as it enters the sump.

Lets talk about why your drain is so noisy, what kind of overflow configuration do you have?

Maybe you wanted to drill some holes in the cap and place in the PVC a filter sock

My overflow is silent, but right now the actual pipe that goes into my sump is above the water level and the water falls about 6" before the water level ni my sump, it's just a waterfall. That pipe just needs extended or the water level raised.
