DIY Reef Controller

Nope, not dying just didn't have much to update lately.

My mac finally died last week so I took some time to shop around for a new laptop. I decided to switch over to widows 8 since mac doesn't support a lot of programming IDE's like atmel studio and TIs equivalent. I just got everything up and running on the new computer yesterday and started working on the I2C bugs.

As of now I am using a 3rd pin alongside the I2C pins as a handshake pin that enables the atmega2560 (I2C slave) to tell the master (atmega328) that it had data for the atmega328. Even though 99% of the time both microcontrollers will be reset at the same time and enter a "dataswap" when they turn back on I am looking to make sure if each resets by themselves that they can get the required data before doing anything else and possibly report bad information to the LCD screen.

Eh, I definitely like the feel of osx better but love that everything has a windows version on windows. I really hate the new windows 8 start screen and avoid it at almost all costs. It took me while a while to get used to windows again since I haven't used it for 4 or 5 years, haha.

Also if anyone upgrades to windows 8 be aware that by default it requires all drivers to be signed to use them. Unfortunately the arduino drivers are not signed so you have to boot into the bios and turn it off the requirement in order to use the arduinos.

Yep I hate the Start screen And Always Install Clastic start .... Only run Windows 8 On desktop at work as i am a support engineer but laptop and main PC at Home Linux Mint and The software works Spot on ...

Have a Win 8 PC at Home For Games .. :) but 2 busy with this stuff to play with that now

Oh windows 8. It was the first release that made me feel like an old man who "hates" technology. Lol.

My first thought when I saw it. "Eh....I don't like it...never will...why would they change it so much...I don't want to learn it...stupid Microsoft." lol but it's not that bad when I was forced to learn it to teach to others.

Right drew. I thought the same thing. So many new things and after figuring it out I realized it wasn't all that bad. I still use two fingers to scroll my touchpad on the laptop, then realize I don't need to do that, but I kinda like it

Hello to all,
sorry for the English (I'm Italian)
I'll try to write short and understandable!
I wanted to ask you if you help me to recreate the control unit.
I've got a arduino 2560,
3.2 screen with sd and shield itdb02
control pwm led.
Can you tell me the pin assignment of the arduino?
example:
White LED 9
blue LED 10
temperature sensor 51
etc etc. ..
or if you can send me a wiring diagram.
Thanks hello.

So, im all soldered up and dont know where to go at this point. Do i upload the program thorugh the usb? Also how about wiring diagrams. Im good at following directions with hardware but Im serously lacking at programming.

Is there any updates to where this build is at the moment?? Has there been any software updates or upgrades or anything?

Should I start looking in to a different version?

rott
this thred started in 09 2012 and is now almost one year and has not produced a usable controller not to mention the lack of documentation and all over the place of this build did i forget to mention the famous phrase it will be finished tonight today tomorrow ? the problem is there is no straight forward plan to this build it keeps changing there for it will never get done the first version should be finished and working then move on to the next i could go on but i am going to stop here

I dont share the same frustration because I've been in a code war before and can only guess the amount of code that links to other code that links to other code. It's complex in nature. It would be nice for everyone involved if he released a beta. No code is perfect and bugs are better found by users. Users report the bug and he can address it. I hope everyone who purchased anything will have an update soon.

Hello to all
Can you help me??
I bought everything I need to recreate the control unit.
I have a lcd http://imall.iteadstudio.com/display/tft-lcm/im120419005.html
shield http://imall.iteadstudio.com/prototyping/kits/im120717001.html
arduino mega.
my problem is that I can not calibrate the screen.
when I go to load the code to calibrate the screen gives me this error

in file included from ITDB02_touch_calibration_fix.ino: 18:
D/Users/Mauro/Documents/arduino/libraries/ITDB02_to
uch.4: 44:22: error: wprogram.h: no such file or directory

In the setup file tells me to change the name ITDB32S line 28 and put the name of my shield
but what should I write?

P.S. I do not know absolutely plan and make changes to the code

thanks

drew i see your point and a beta or what ever is available would be nice along with some documentation it's not easy putting a board together from a picture even a picture with legend over lay would be nice

Anyone here follow the Reef Angle when it first started? It wasn't always on the market. I remember finding the original thread and was so excited about building the thing myself. After a year the thread died.... Nothing more. No responses to questions nothing. It was in the stage of designing a case to house the thing.
I found it agian 2 years after that. 3 years total
The point is we all got other things that come first sometimes. Nick has a life as well. Don't get me wrong, I bought into this just like most of you here. I am not waiting as well as I could be but for now I'll wait.
I have my Typhon on my homemade led setup with some Cree XT-Es and Luxon Rebels, cat drivers, Recon drivers, some ldd-l and Ldd-H drivers. Things progress and change. I'll wait as long as I can and then I'll take my stuff apart and reuse some and shove the other stuff in a drawer. Hell I couldn't give my Typhon away around here. It cost about $90 in parts including shipping for that. I want a new toy. If I can't wait then I'll get on line and buy a controller. There's not much value in building your own, as far as saving money. I just like to get my hands dirty. It ends up costing as much as a premade.
Anyway I say play with the original files. The menu works on my Mega and I can use some of the original funtions as well as incorperate the ATO sensor in the mess. I check this thread 3-4 times a day for an update and will continue to do so.

I will probibly get ripped for this post. I just had to vent.
