Dkh mg ca help

My tank keeps dropping dkh to 5.6.
Trying to keep it 7 to 9 dkh
Mg is over 1600... not sure how didnt dose it. Ca is at 450. I dosed kalkwasser yesterday and brought dkh back up to 7.1 today.
Any help on why dkh dropping? Is mag blocking the other minerals?

What are you testing with? Why dose kalk to get alk up? Kalk is never recommended to raise levels. You should be dosing soda ash

Corals, coraline algae, other algae, and anything else that is photosynthetic or makes calcium skelitons/tubes is using bicarbinate aka alkalinity. Since there's a lot of biology messing with calcium, bicarbonate and magnesium all three should be monitored. You own experiences with your system will indicate how often. While related they each can change differentially so only one or two of them may need to be dosed. For alkalinity baking soda works well, you should look at the different methods of dosing to see what will work best for you to maintain the proper levels.

Have you done a lot of water changes? I've heard that salts can start to mix unevenly if you don't roll the bucket / stir it up occasionally. However, I've never experienced this - I've always mixed my salt as a precaution after hearing.

Edit: this could explain magnesium, which could be the root of your alk / calcium issues. I'm not sure how the alk is affected my letting salt sit.

Dkh 5.6 Hannah checker
Ca 375 (yes low ) red sea
Mg 1480 red sea
Ph 8.0 api
Salinity 1.024 (usually1.025/26 my norm)
Po4 .25 api
Nitrate 0.0 unreadable api

Dkh keeps dropping
I dosed kalkwasser over 2 days drip method had it up to 7.3. 2 days later dropped again. This is really frustrating.

When you get insane results, first suspect a test has expired and is defective. Chasing a bad test's advice can really screw things up. Also, use dkh buffer to deal with alk.

I ordered some sodium bicarbonate. Kalkwasser for temp dosing as brs recommends this as well.
I've tested dkh with redsea and Hannah. Both saying around 5 and 6.

I had a similar situation a couple weeks ago. I know when my alkalinity was dropping spontaneously, Sk8r mentioned the interaction between calcium alkalinity and magnesium. Once I bit the bullet and jumped to a little under 9.0 it stabilized. I dosed Fritz part 1 of alkalinity with a turkey baster, jumping from a little below 7 to a little under 9 over 16 hours.

Doing something similar to what I did might be your best bet - I'm curious of what other members think. None of my corals died but they were less than thrilled.

Edit - here's a link to my thread - What could be causing my alkalinity to drop?
