Do any of you use 2" Durso's on your tanks

I am setting up a 360 and need some advice on weather to get durso's or not. I have people telling me that they cloge. they will be 2".

A durso isn't any more prone to clogging than any other drain configuration. Either use egg crate and gutter guard to block access to the overflow, or put a strainer on the intake to the durso.

What sort of flow are you expecting that would require multiple 2" drains? I have found that 1.5" can carry a tremendous amount of water.

I will be running a hammerhead with the returns and that pushes pretty hard so I want the drains to keep up. I would rather have them to bigger then smaller.

I have 2 2" drain with only a 90 degree elbow. A 2" durso will be very bulky and need a lot of room in our overflow. I am running a barracuda and found that with 2 2" drain, they suck in a lot of air and make more noise. So I closed the ball valve a little and problem solved.

I run a hammer head with 4 1.5 drains with durso's and they have no prob keeping up.

Hope that helps.

Thanks fade, I am having the exact same thing as what you have built. Except I only have one External overflow acrossed one side of the tank. So you would suggets getting the durso's because they don't clog any more then anything else. Is there some type of a caped sponge filter I could put on the end? If that makes any sense?

I run them open, very quit but I guess you could put strainers on them if you wanted to.
They have not clogged yet but my tank has only been running for 3 weeks.

I have two 2" dursos in mine just because I can.:D
Actually, I had the room and there is no way they are both going to get clogged at the same time.

I have a 2" durso in my overflow and also use a hammerhead as the return. It keeps up with it. I have a lid that fits over the overflow so anything that can fit thru the teeth will be all that can go down the overflow. Don't think it will clog up.

Has anyone used a 2" Stockman? I don't have room for a durso, but would like to know if anyone has built a large Sockman.

I had 1.5" standpipes on my 280 for 3+ years never had any clogging. Would check algae build up evry 6 months or so... Now on my 500 I have 2 - 2" durso's, running for 10 months. With no problems, I'm confussed. What can clog the pipe??? If it can fit a 3/8" overflow screen how can it clog a 2" pipe??? I run about 3,000 gals./ hour on each..
