Do I skim During Cycle/curing?

msudawgs56

Go Dawgs!
im setting up a new tank. My cured live rock will be here tomorrow and i was told my live rock will still need to cure. I am going to put it in my tank and cycle my tank with it.

Do i skim during this time or leave it off till after the cycle. I've heard if i skim during my cycle it will be removing the amonia that i need for the cycle.

Thanks

Hi Dawg,

Skim away. There is plenty of ammonia to keep all things happy in a newly set up tank, even one with fully cured LR. In fact, the beneficial bacteria you are seeking are already on the rock itself so it won't slow down things one little bit. The same holds true for water changes.
