Do mags of this color truly exist or are these photos 'shopped'?

Really hoping to find one of this type of coloration but beginning to think they don't really exist :crazy1:. For over a year, I've had 4 local fish stores looking for me and personally searching the internet almost nightly, I still haven't come across one. Is this coloration locale specific and rarely collected?
Please post pics of yours if you have one.

I have a purple based mag myself and love it, but is the coloration seen above truly this intense/vibrant? I'd like to see some actual captive specimens that look this colorful. They must be pretty rare or at least seasonal or location specific. I've seen several purple based mags or sale over the past year, but no red/pink based specimens like the ones above.

Also, I've read/heard that some of the red based specimens that do come available actually turn a dark redish/brown or brick red color in our aquaria, leading me to believe that the coloration above is very very rare or the coloration may be a result of the camera flash or color settings. Just curious.

Many anemones become a shadow of their former self in captivity. The stress of a new environment, low/no trace elements, higher than normal phosphates, nitrates, toxins, etc., and subpar lighting and flow patterns leave our anemones happy, but never as stellar as the ocean itself can. Since H. Magnifica is notoriously harder to keep, they may be more sensitive to these affects, and the dulling of their once vibrant colors could be a result of their captive environment.

I have seen bright red based mags like those in the pics you posted. I haven't seen any lately though. When they used to come in they were usually listed as being from Africa. I don't know if we get those shipments much anymore.

The bright red ones that I used to see come in didn't turn brick red in the dealers tanks, but the did tend to lighten up to more of a pink, just like the purple based anemones tend to lighten up a bit. Realize too that most mags in general are not exactly the picture of health when they are in dealers tanks.

The color, especially the red, can look very different under different lighting. I have 20k lighting, so the red on my mag is dull and washed out when the tank lights are on. When the tank lights are off, and the regular room lights are on, the red explodes.

My purple is super purple in all aspects, so i beleive that these reds would certainly be able to be that bright in captivity if your levels are really stable and good enough.

I have seen the red one while diving in the red sea. It was just as bright as the one on the bottom right if not brighter.

On a side note the one red based one that was not from the groupsame collected group had to be removed cause the three from the split forced it to move.

It had to be put in a seperate tank.

I am sure now that these are all from a split they each have white lines like what a BTA gets when split.

I have seen both types in the wild, so yes they exist - and are relatively common.

The dark red base ones are all OVER French Polynesia (particularly Moorea) (bottom right). There are some reefs that are covered with them...

Everytime I see that picture with the green base one I want one even more then ever. Maybe I better give the importers a call. Well I should have the guy that lives next to me give them a call. He's brother is a collector and sales to the importers.

Beautiful magnifica! That's the coloration I'm looking for in the last two photos.
Very jealous of your collection! Everything looks pristine.
