When my pumps were new they were pumping 1.1ml per min but I then noticed my dkh was not holding and I really hadn't changed anything in the tank. I ran the pumps for 10 mins into a cup and found I was only pumping .9 ml's per minute. So I had to adjust my dosing time so I would get the correct amount of ml's per day. I later found that there was a part that needed to be replaced and that's what was causing the decreased volume.
Just setup a dosing pump on my tank I love how much easier it is to maintain rock steady kh,ca and mg levels. I'm so glad I don't have to mess with my calcium reactor anymore. I add 16ml of calcium and kh 24 times a day and 4ml mg 16 times a day. I use Arm and Hammer baking soda for the kh and get everything else from BRS. Wish I would have learned to mix my own two part from the beginning, I don't even want to know how much I spent on Seachem and Kent over the years. Back when I had just a 90 gallon system I was dosing B-Ionic 2 part and my results were fantastic. I experimented with splitting the dosage by 2 daily intervals to even doing Alk in the AM and CaCl in the PM. It made no apparent difference over just dumping it in at 1 time with 15 minutes between each to allow things to mix into the system separate from one another. But the dosing systems are by far the most stable method for a 2 part addition scheme. Back when I had just my 90 I had times the salt for water changes or the 2 part itself was tough to afford. So I would have done manual even if the more popular dosers of today were available back then.
I dosed manually for the last two years. The difference I'm seeing is far less calcium carbonate precipitating on the walls of my sump and sides of my protein skimmer. I haven't checked any of my pumps yet, but I'm hoping the impellers stay clean longer as well.
