Do you have a Profilux 3 question

One comparison question I will front and answer

Is the software free for life?

yes it is and always will be , it also goes through rigorous beta testing on each release so when made final the users are not left with bugs to deal with.

Here are some screen shots

For competition security reasons I have posted screen shots of an older version but the concept is still the same as well as page layout, the newer versions just have more features! This is also just a rough snap shot, I doubt here is even half of the screens available.

Any plans to offer initial user support such as instructional dvd/videos etc? The user manual is not very detailed, and with all of the new applications and abilities I think this would be a big benefit.

To control the profiLux using the FREE profiLux control software if you do not wish to network the controller via the webserver ethernet connection.

It just gives another option for connectivity ;)

Question I just got by phone and worth posting

Does the ProfiLux 3 use a genuine bus or a USB derivative?

The ProfiLux3 uses a full bodied high speed bus system only found in high end controlling equipment and the automotive industry, this is why a cable length of 400 feet is possible without the need for a hub.

Good question I thought :)

I asked about a screensaver for displaying parameters in this thread:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1704680

Now that the Profilux 3 has been officially announced and MACNA is over, can you elaborate on this question a little more.

What I would like is to have the Profilux 3 controller connected directly to a computer in my fish room in the basement a screen saver on this computer would be great. Even better, I would like to have the ability to have a screen saver on an additional computer in the upstairs living room that will display tank parameters so I can see my parameters at a glance without having to go to the basement.

Hi

The ProfiLux 3 will be on your network so it can be viewed from any computer in the world not just the fish room, you can then install any screen saver as normal on that PC.

You also can upload your own website to the profiLux server and display this.

Hope that helps?

I understand that. However, that involves pulling up a browser to view tank parameters. I would never get cooperation from my wife and kids if I told them "every time you get done with the computer I want you to close your programs and make sure daddy's tank parameters are on the monitor." It would never happen and not very convenient. A screen saver would automatically display tank parameters every time the computer is left in idle for a few minutes.

you can then install any screen saver as normal on that PC.
Well of course you could, but I don't want just "any" screen saver. I think the answer is "no", Profilux does not have a screen saver application. I guess what I'm asking for, then, is a feature request from Profilux. I'm talking about a "Profilux screen saver" application. i.e. Install the "profilux screen saver" and when your computer is in idle for x # of minutes the screen saver pops up and displays current tank parameters (retrieved from the profilux controller to the computer via the internet) in big bold numbers so you can see the parameters as you are casually walking through the room as you are going about your day to day business.

Perhaps Profilux should consider developing a screen saver application. I think something like that would be a big hit. I'm no computer programmer so I don't know how to make it happen. However, I know it is possible. I have seen screen savers that are able to pull information from the internet (i.e. weather conditions) The Profilux Screen Saver would connect to the Profilux 3 in the same way as an internet browser. The user would have to input the login information such as serial number, username and password into the screen saver application so the application would know which Profilux 3 to communicate with.

Many homes have multiple computers these days. Having the ability to have a "tank parameter monitor" in multiple rooms using the internet and a "Profilux Screen Saver" would be nice.

There are third party apps such as this 'Web Screen Saver' and many many others that let you display the content of any webpages as a screen saver..... That would be an easy cheap alternative until someone decides to write one directly for the profilux.

Ahhhh yes! Thanks. I think you understand what I'm asking for. I google that and took a quick glance. I need to give it a closer look, but at a glance it does look like something that would be an "alternative" until Profilux could write an app that would be more ideal. Thanks again!

I picture walking by my computer and seeing a screen saver that looks something like this:

No that is not my tank. It is Iwan Lasser's... I just live in a fantasy world. :D

Ideally this screen saver would be accurate up to the second or at least update every couple minutes.

If you go to www.aquariumcomputer.com/forum you will see a customer wishes area, maybe a good idea to post it there, GHL listen to all users requests (this is how the ProfiLux 3 got developed) and will take all good and feasible wishes into account and look at developing them.

You never know your suggestion could become reality, one thing is for sure GHL listen to ALL requests seriously.

I kinda feel like I just made an official suggestion. I might post on there sometime when I get the chance. I'm leaving town right now. Since you have a direct contact with GHL headquarters I'm sure you could forward my suggestion.

Yep i can do that no trouble I will post the info later for you to them ;)

Have a good trip and enjoy your weekend.

1) Will my settings that I've saved for my P2 be used for the P3 or do I need to manuall re-enter all settings?

2) Sure wish Vortech (EchoMarine) would play nice with you guys to make things seemless :)

3) I purchased my upgrade thru Progressive - Any idea when these upgrades will hit the market?

Thanks
