Do you have a Profilux 3 question

P3 software

P3 software

I am interested in what new data logging capabilities the P3 will have over the P2. Are we going to have more control over what and how often data is collected? Can we export data out to excel? Can we add other data to the P3 that we collect through test kits, so that we can compare trends to each other?
How much data can the P3 store before it maxes out memory?

The logging and graphing capabilities are vast on the P3, there will be many options available, and it would take several years to fill the memory.

In regards to very detalied specifics this will be released with the software that is still being written now.

I am trying to figure out the pricing issues but it still is confusing. Maybe you can break things down for me. I have a new tank set up and plan on purchasing a controller "“ right now Profilux is in the lead. I do not need my controller today but I could purchase it today if it was financially advantageous. As I see it, I have 2 Profilux options:
Option 1: Wait until November and buy a Profilux III beginner pack for $949.00
Option 2: Buy Today a Profilux Plus II beginner pack for $545.00
And pay for the Profilux III upgrade $198.00

Questions:
"¢ If I choose Profilux Plus II and the early discount for upgrading ($198) how will my upgraded unit be different in terms of aesthetics, function, and future expandability compared to an out of the box Profilux III? It looks like option 2 would save me $206. I just want to make sure that I'm not overlooking something else that I would need to add to bring a Profilux Plus II up to the full capabilities of a Profilux III or Profilux III EX.
"¢ Please refresh my memory on the difference between the Profilux III and the Profilux III EX.
"¢ How many Tunze powerheads can the Profilux control?
Is the Profilux software compatabile with Apple OS's?

AQD_ottawa will chime in an answer most of your questions, but it is my understanding that a Profilux II upgraded to Profilux III is identical in every way to an out of the box Profilux III. Not to mention I remember reading somewhere that AQD_ottawa will even install the upgrade kit at no charge (with the exception of shipping charges, but I guess you wouldn't have additional shipping charges if you purchase from GHL-direct and ask him not to ship until he performs the upgrade... If you are interested, ask AQD_ottawa if that is possible)

I would also consider purchasing now but I have two things standing in the way. 1. I really can't afford it until next spring. 2. I have concerns about using up my warranty before I even get a chance to use the product.

Here you go

The ProfiLux II upgraded will be identical in every shape and form other than the serial number on its bum saying ProfiLux Plus II ;)

The ONLY thing you get extra by waiting is you will get the PAB power bar with all P3 kits, this gives you infinate plug socket chaining and the ability to monitor your ampage current levels on each port. Now take into account if you buy the Plus II kit that comes with the normal power bar, and then upgrade to a P3, you can always buy a PAB power bar when you need more plug sockets and you lose nothing.

Price difference between the bars = about $40

So to do the maths, a profiLux plus II MAPS at $599 (you will find it cheaper) and the upgrade kit is $198USD

Total = $797 max

ProfiLux P3 kit Map is $969.00

So for the sake of the PAB power bar you are saving yourself $172 at the least, but more likely with shopping around $215 max.

• Please refresh my memory on the difference between the Profilux III and the Profilux III EX.

The two are the same engine with these differences

The EX comes with onboard salinity, redox level 3 port and 1-10V interfaces totalling 6.

• How many Tunze powerheads can the Profilux control?

Plus II = 8

P3 as many as you can cram in your tank ;)

Is the Profilux software compatabile with Apple OS's?

You require an emulator

Yes you can, just install the PLM-Cond-S card

Dual cards are also available such as pH and salinity this gives you a second pH port and also the salinity.

ProfiLux is 100% flexible, build the system you require that fits your needs

I very excited that my dealer (Fish World, Richmond, VA) ordered my Profilux Plus II and a Profilux 3 upgrade for me yesterday. I have never run a controller before. Is there a good reference/tutorial to give a practical leeson on how to go about a basic set-up and begin programming?

Hi

Yes its great to have fish world onboard covering your area, we will be giving them all the support they require.

The best place to go for info is www.aquariumcomputer.com/forum this is the GHL official support forum where all technical questions are answered. This RC forum is now used for product info.

If you get stuck on anything just post on that forum (not here).

We urge all new comers to controllers to read a good chunk of the manual first, and any warning notes that come with the controller, just as you would with any big electronic purchase. The other thing is dont rush anything, this is what I always suggest

Establish where basic connections go for instance

Power bar into S1S4
Temp probe into lower port out of the two din sockets (the upper one is level control)

Download profiLux control onto your PC

Establish how you wish to make a connection from PC to ProfiLux, an RS232 cable is supplied but if you do not have an RS232 port, you will need to purchase for now an RS232 to USB converter. We can help you with this set up.

These are the basics, we can discuss more once you have the controller at this point.

Hi,

I bought a USB to Serial cable (profilic driver) and I could use it to connect to my Profilux Plus II. However, it frequently crashes the computer with blue screen.

Can someone let me know what brand usb to serial they have used successfully and where can I get them? Btw, I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.

Thanks!

Hi

Use the driver that came with the serial adapter (not the profilic driver) and make sure you are using the Profiser R323 cable to connect to the back of the controller.

The cable I bought did not have driver for Vista so I had to search and download from the web. That's why I am thinking I should get a better cable.

Oh right, yes for sure go get one that comes with a driver.

The Profilic driver can work, it works on my vista home premium using my non branded serial adapter, but it really is luck o the draw.

Serial adapters are a nightmare in all honesty. If you are not updating to the ProfiLux 3 then i would suggest getting the PLM-USB card or the PLM-LAN card, but only if you are not upgrading.

I bought the upgrade kit from progressivereef already. So when this is upgraded I don't need the serial cable anymore?

When you fit the upgrade kit you will no longer require the serial connection as you will have built in ethernet and also USB.
