Do you like your Seio Rio pump?

Hello Craig Lambert,
My tank is only LPS (soft corals), rocks and fishes. Right now I am using return pump from my sump, maxijet, quiet pump, and one small pump. thanks.....integra

I have used 2 1100's for over a yr will no complaints. Well one their a little big.

Been using 2 x 620s for 2+ years and had zero issues with them. Quite and reliable.

I bought a 1100 and had issues with re-starts and one day stopped working.

Had a Rio.... power went out... RIO didn't start back up and burned up. Nuked my tank.... took me a year+ to get it back to normal. Don't use them.. buy a Maxi Jet instead. Same price range, no start-up issues and better reputation. Also the RIO's have had seal issues in the past leading to leaking and stray voltage issues.

The Seio powerheads are not the same animal as the old Rio Pumps. The Rio pump models you're referring to were not UL approved, and never should have been purchased to begin with.

Ahh gotcha... well so long as they are different manufacturers and models than the RIO's of old, then I have no opinion of them. Just don't buy any of the old RIO's that may happen to be on shelves.

I threw 2 1500's in the trash. Constantly freezing up. I cleaned them regularly, but that didn't seem to help.

I have a 620 and I hate it. It way to big, don't kow whyits gray instead of black like my other equip. and It never restarted when unplugged. Its now used for water change water. I am going to get to Tunze nanosteams when they come in. You should check those out they arent that much higher.

I had 2 1500's on my 125g for a month. I hated it. Was way too big. All cause a vortex in the tank. Creating lots of bubbles. Tried lowering it, but couldn't really do so, just because of some of the positioning of my corals. Yes it does have a controller but it does not do what I want it to do.

I have had RIO's blow up and release nasty black stuff in my make up water container and I had to switch containers because the stuff would not come off.

These kind of comments always end up in Seio pump threads. I've never heard of any Seio pump blow up the way the infamous Rios did. They are both made by Taam, but Rio's problems should not be associated with Seios. Totally different pump design.

I've had 2 Seio 820s running in my 55g. They both worked reliably, never failed to restart, never blew up. I didn't like the narrow intake slits on the Seios as they were snail/slug killing machines. I've since switched to Tunze nano streams, which are a bit more expensive than a Seio 820, but have lots more intake space so it doesn't kill anything.

its because people assume since they are both under the same parent company, they must be the same, and dont realize that they are made in two different manufacturing plants.

Doesnt make sense, its like if people would blame KFC for Pizza Hut's bad food. I mean, they are both owned by the same company.

RIO 17HF here.

and I hate it. Fails to restart more than 50% of the time.

Its UL listen and still a piece of junk. And like someone stated above it too should have never been purchased.

I would have returned it for being defective out of the box but that just how they are designed plus I purchased it on ebay.

seio 2600 update

seio 2600 update

i have come to like my seios now that i have been able to hide them behind some rocks in the corners and finally get the cords out the backside of the canopy and on my controler. they start with no clatter and are silent compared to the mjmods. provide a nice flow.
