Do you nano users throw a full cube of mysis into your tanks?

Just curious, I have a 29 and usually cut a cube into half or smaller. But am wondering if I dump the whole cube in if it will feed more of the corals/shrimp/crabs besides the fish w/o polluting the system?

i usualy soak my frozen food in zoe for 24 hours then i use this long bulb syrenge called the sea squirt

then just feed as needed and refridgerate the left overs

you can make one of those for almost nothing. I took an oral syringe ( the kind that you can get at a pet store to feed baby animals or get one free from your local pharmacy) and a piece of 3/16" ridgid tubing in any length you like and join them with a 1" piece of flexible airline tubing. It makes for a great precision feeder and small vacuum. If you cut a V-notch at the bottom it will hold a piece of silverside or larger food item for anemones and eels. also since the syringe is graduated in cc and ml and sometimes tsp. you can mark the tubing accordingly if you feel so inclined.

I throw a whole cube of mysid into my 24 gallon. I have only had the fish for about a week. I have 2 fish. I do monitor the tank to make sure that the food is consumed asap. I have skipped feeding for one day.

you guys shouldnt be throwing the cube into the tank... it takes a little to disolve and usually doesnt spread properly... grab about 1/4 of a cup of tank water and throw the cube in there to melt for a minute or two and then feed it to the tank however you want

to answer the question though: i fed a whole cube once with no ill effects, but my LPS didnt really eat it so i havent fed it again... maybe when i get a higher fish load..

i have 37 gallon, i thaw mysis first, feed the 4 fish i have, so they don't steal it from corals. and then i spot feed my lps with small turkey baster like item

Ok question about spot feeding... whenever I spot feed an LPS I don't really see chunks of mysis acually go into the mouth.... should I?

Does anyone have phosphate problems from frozen food? I am have a small problem with bubble algae adn the only place I am getting any phosphates is from the frozen food that I feed. I have resulted to thawing, rinsing and finally feeding.

I usually alternate between flake and pellet and maybe once a week or so use frozen mysis. So I'm not super concerned about polluting with the frozen food since I use it pretty rarely.

I make my own food for my fish and corals and freeze it, that way I know I dont have any phosphates in it. I throw a frozen cube on the grate of my Tunze nano-stream and let it get slowly shot out. Usually the fish get the first peices that get shot out, and after a while when a large portion of the cube gets shot out it's enough to feed the lps corals. I dont directly spot feed them, but I do have lots of flow so it never falls to the bottom, just stays in suspension until something eats it or it falls into the filter sock which get's changed alot. That's why I can feed heavy but still have no nitrates.

I have a BC 29 with 4 fish. I found the frozen mysis in a sheet that lets me break off small pieces of it. I thaw and rinse and then feed - much less food than the cubes I saw. there's usually a little left over that I net out of the tank so it doesnt decay in there.

20h, 2 percs, 1 firefish, 1 royal gramma + numerous corals:

1 Hikari Mysis cube = 3-4 feedings (rinsed of course).

otherwise I can expect excess phosphates. Remember, you're fishes stomach is only as big as it's eye. HTH

What do u guys meen by rinsing?When u rinse it wouldnt the whole thing dissolve and wash away?And what do u guys rinse it with ro water or tap water?

1 cube will feed my tank 4 or 5 times.... a whole cube is WAY too much...your killing them with kindness

Fill a cup half way with some tank water and throw in a cube"! Let the cube melt and stir it! then just poor in little by little until ur fish stop eating"! Atleast thats what i do! lol

Yea but, the argument would be that you're pouring in phosphates along with the food. I myself don't rinse, just thaw, and am now interested to test for phosphates...

I was thinking the same thing. I thaw a cube and it usually lasts almost a week...

I dissolve it with a small cup of tank water before 1 cube goes in. About 85% gets eaten.
