Do you think I would need a chiller?

Im debating on the lighting for my 180 from glasscages? Im kinda leaning toward an aqualight pro retro to mount in the canopy with 3 250 watt haldes and the 4x96 compact flourecents. Do you think it will raise the water temp enough to require a chiller? Im open to lighting recommendations if anyone has any?

Hey Eyebedam, do you or your friend have any of the Red Rose type Anenomes? I want to put one in my 90.

I am going with T5 lighting on it.

Depends on how the canopy is designed, what temp you keep your house and what pumps you are going to run.

Its a glasscages canopy, the back is open & i keep my house at 68 in the summer my wife hates it cause she says i freeze her but you know how that goes.

With that temp in the summer you shouldn't have any issue (unless you run a bunch of hot submersible pumps). I cant keep my house below79-80 in the hottest part of the day. I don't have a chiller and have no problems.
If i found a chiller at the right price at the right time.... i might buy one for insurance but I'd rather have a generator instead.

I agree with your house that cool you probably won't have any problems but I would pick something besides a Mag....they heat the water a lot. I would go with an external pump if you can...it can only help heatwise.

Im gonna try to get gary to come over & take a look at everything before i place my order for lights & what not. Im gonna try to get him help me with the plumbing & everything.

That mag is 110 watts....

I remember about 15 years ago i believed that there was no reason to have a heater in your tank at all.....lol.... the 2 submersible pumps i used kept my 90g at 80 all the time.... this was without any MH ...lol

I've got two 400w MH's under my glasscages canopy and there is no way I could run without a chiller. 250w may be possible, can't speak from exerpience there.

I suppose I could reduce the MH time, and turn the fans on, but that almost triples my evaporation rate, and, well, I'm too lazy :p

120. Originally had a much deeper tank, but found out it leaked after everything was set up.

Don't mistake despair for a laid back attitude in that pic :)
