I was thinking of getting some filter media, and was wondering what everyone else is using.

I was going to use cheato, and LR rubble, and was thinking about Seachem Purigen for nitrogenous waste, and Seachem SeaGel for carbon and phosphorus.

any thoughts or comments?

I just started using BRS Rox carbon and GFO (again) as well as LR and chaeto. Since adding the carbon and GFO the growth of my chalices seems to have exploded. They were pretty fast growers to being with but the amount of growth in the last week seems huge in comparison. Plus the colors look so much better. Not sure if that's the carbon cleaning the water or the GFO pulling out phosphates (which read very low on my Salifert), or both. But so far I'm impressed with the carbon/GFO combo!! We'll see how the leathers and other soft coral do in the new clean water.

I use: chaeto fuge, rox8 carbon, gfo, and purigen, I don't know much about sea gel.Purigen is very good though, in my opinion, since it captures organics much like granulated activated carbon but the resin may capture different forms of organics than the carbon. So using them both is a plus. If I had to choose only one it would be the carbon.

It seems like people are using BRS carbon and GFO.

I did put in a pretty big order to Thatpetplace last night, to get stuff for the rabbit, and FW tank, and the soon-to-be SW tank. So while i was lurking around there site, i did pick up a small bottle of SeaGel, and Purigen. I guess i will have to wait and see what happens when the tank is finally running.

I do have a AC110 that I will be modding soon, and was thinking about making two compartments. 1) Filter floss, purigen, seagel (or other combination of media) 2) LR rubble and cheato

should i run the media all the time? or just when needed?
