Do Zoa colors bounce back?

I recently bought a little frag of Zoas that looked incredible in the tank I got them from... Dont know what theyre called, but it was about 8 polyps... each one absolutely identical with perfect concentric rings, one of which was a wide gorgeous magenta color..

In my tank they look healthy.. but are a solid brownish green.. no rings or anything...

My lights kinda stink right now... I'm waiting for an OCreef par 38 to ship...

Question is.. will these guys regain their original color pattern once my lighting is improved?

Sure, They likely have not lost much of their color at all. Alot depends on the lighting they are under as to which pigments will flouresce and be visible. I run into this issue alot with local reefers around here.

I assume from your signature you have a Aqueon Evolve with additional LEDs. Most anything with any real flourescence will appear brown/dull under the factory lights. Depending on your supplimental LEDs you might get some good flourescence but The PAR 38 will be a world of change.

Oranges and reds will pop under 20k halides/ actintics or LED. But will usually appear browner under 10-14k lights.

yes, they can easily dull or in reverse brighten up on you depending on lighting scheme, tank conditions and how happy/not liking your tank conditions.

Good news.. I sure hope you guys are right.. because these were Beauties! Also, I have a couple of rescue frags that are fairly plain looking:

The photo doesnt really capture it well.. but that set along the top and right have a faint but distinctly red/purple ring...

Hopefully the new light might beautify those as well... :strange:

Oh.. and here is a pic of the original colony I mentioned:

You wouldnt believe how incredible these ugly ducklings were in the other tank... I'm really hoping to see that again...
