does anybody know anything about little giant pumps?

I am looking at the little giant 4 external pump for my basement sump to push up one floor to the DT. Does anybody know anything about these pumps? I.e. reliability, noise levels, etc. Also, if this pump is 1" inlet, 1/2" outlet, and I wanted to go to 3/4" outlet piping, how much would I loose in gph compared to their pressure loss chart? I'm mainly concerned about the 10' head at 680gph that they record. I will have it on a 57g DT.

Years ago I placed my sump in the basement at my old house and bought a little giant external pump. I couldn't tell you what size it was, but it was more than enough to run my 75 gallon and a 55 gallon sump. It wasn't noisy and was very reliable. I can tell you that that much head, ten feet, you can't go wrong by running a little more pump and dumping the excess back into the sump using a ball valve. Wish I could help you more than that. If you do get one, make sure its rated for saltwater.

Ok, that sounds pretty good to me. I'm buying one used, so is there anything I need to look for when inspecting it? It's overrated for my setup, so I definitely will be using a ball valve for flow control.

I think in the heavy reading i have done on here the only thing you have to worry about is the berrings if its used.. but a big butt i remember reading a whole article about were to find brand new ones and how to repack them the darn thing uses if i remember grease and nothing more than a cotten ball to hold it.. I have a good memory but cannot find the link off the top of my head. Just letting you know they can be rebuilt for cheap.

I believe the 1/2" outlet is the presure rated version. It also comes in a non presure rates 3/4" outlet. The pump isn't quiet but it's not the loadest either; but it's a reliable pump. We ran a dozen of them at our old shop. They seem to all die at around 4 years of non stop operation with no maintenance what so ever.
