Does anyone have experience with Pinpoint Nitrate monitors?

As the title says, I am looking for information on the Pinpoint nitrate monitor. Any issues, how long does the probe actually last, etc?

I had one and returned it for a credit on a pH monitor. Inaccurate by my findings...but do a search as I believe there are some threads on it here.

Thanks, I am starting to find things that basically say it isn't for continuous monitoring, which tends to defeat the whole "monitor" thing.

It works in saltwater, but isn't any easier to use than a test kit, from what I can tell.

The reviews, I've seen have been mostly negative. So, I didn't get one. Salifert tst kit works ok,ime.

I had one for about 6 monthes and then sold it didn't care for it at all would have to calbrate it once a month rather use salifert test kit this is just my oppinion

I started looking for this when I basically gave up hope on Hanna coming out with a Nitrate checker.

Oh, well back to looking at colors.

You're welcome! If you want to try a nitrate meter, one of the (expensive) Hanna colorimeters might work. They aren't monitors, though.

I thought about that, but the reagent refill kits for 100 tests range from $60 to $75. Not terrible as good test kits go, but a little expensive for refills.

Yes, those meters are expensive compared to hobbyist kits. I just stuck with Salifert, in the end. IO is fine, too.

I bought this "monitor" in April 2012. It never functioned as advertised nor was it even close to reliable. Measurements differ substantially from one sample over just a few minutes. Manufacturer also fails to disclose that reading needs to be multiplied by 4.4.
When Lou Dell (the owner) asked to correct problems, he attributes every defective product issue to "user error". He also requires purchaser to pay all shipping costs to return the product to him for "œfurther testing".
I would rate this American Marine product as "expensive junk" just like all other of the Pinpoint products.
Buyer beware!!!
