Does this mag need treatment?

Had this guy almost 6 months without issue, the last week or do it looks droopy and week at times (never really deflated but gets small at times) . Today I tried to feed it a small piece of raw shrimp, my clowns kept pulling it out of them nems mouth so I removed the clowns and tried it again. It took over 30 mins to eat it and I don't think it's fully digested yet. I took a short video of the nem so you guys could get a better look at him. Also the powerheads are off so I could get a clearer shot.

Here it is a few months back, note the size difference

It clearly looks worse off than before. That said its not too terrible. If anything try not feeding it for several days. Also, if possible separate the clowns from it. Hopefully it recovers.

Thank you for the response. Truth is I've never fed it in the past, I just decided to try today since it started looking so bad. Nothing has really changed in the tank since day one with the exception of my nitrates, they were at 40ppm at one point but I managed to get them down to 10 and still dropping. Also when I tested my mag last week I noticed it was only a a wopping 800ppm so I am bringing that back up to 1350. I didn't think magnesium effected anemones but I could be wrong. Again thanks for the reply

What salt mix do you use and what are your water changes like?

Being that it's a small tank I usually do a 20% change with either Nurtisea or Petco saltwater every 2 weeks and I top off with distilled water as needed. I was very surprised at the mag results also so I tested multiple times with the Redsea test kit. I knew it had to be low since my cal and Alk were out of whack and the tank has been using up cal like crazy with minimal corals.

Sounds like it's time to invest in a RO/DI unit and a sea salt mix for stability.

Keeping H. Magnifiga in a nano is iffy in the first place, arguably one of the hardest nems to keep long term, obviously stability is extremely important but so is the correct surge type of mass alternating water movement these guys require, would be hard to replicate that in a nano. I would rehome it.

Best of luck

I've seen plenty of mags successfully kept in 40g aquariums, 45g isn't really considered a nano. As far as water movement I'm running 2 RW4 powerheads and had to turn them down cause it was to much flow.

Mag need good light, good water, good water movement and stability of the water.
Light?
Do you have enough light?
stability of the water/temp condition?
Cant have quick salinity change and adjustment of water too quick. Too fast of Mag correction, temp fluctuation? salinity fluctuation?
Good water?
You seem to have a little problem with this. Need a goo salt mix and start to change a lot of water to get the condition back to normal. IME, there is no such thing as one parameter out of balance, but multiple parameter since they are all interdependent.

Yea I'm working on getting all my levels as closer to NSW and mainly bringing my mag up slowly. As far as lighting goes I have an AI hydra 26 mounted 12" above the waterline. I use to keep my whites at 40% but I noticed that the anemone looks 100 times better when the lights are off so I'm thinking about decreasing the whites and see how the nem reacts.

Well after another wc and relocating my powerheads from the back to the sides of the tank it's starting to look much better. Lights are ramping down so that's why the tank looks a little dark.

You should probably quarantine and teat him. Use cipro or fish flox for 7 days.

Keeping these is hard and are prone to infections. Keep cipro and flox on hand. Change the qt water daily

It's actually doing much better now, as the nitrates went down it started improving quickly. If it had needed treatment it would have been dead already. From what I have read they only contract the infection from shipping or introducing an infected nem, I could be wrong though. Anyways thank you for the reply.
