does your skimmer do this

i'm installing a new skimmer, the only question i have is.

1. does part of the electrical cord remain under water?

the pump on my skimmer is underwater and the cord from it must be submerged, this just doesn't seem safe.

You should still have everything connected to a GFCI plug. If you don't and you have an electrical problem with your hands in the tank it could kill you or start a fire. Everything that is connected electrically should be plugged into one of these type plugs.

I second Pats recommendation for the GFCI circuit. Many components in the system will have power cords underwater. All it takes is some wear on one of the cords and you have a VERY dangerous situation. ALL EQUIP NEEDS to be on GFCI circuit.
