My timer stop working about a month ago on my Kalk Reactor pump. It usually goes on and off for 5 minutes twice a day. I haven't got around to getting a new timer so I was turning it on and off manually. Well 2 nights ago, I turned it on and forgot to turn it off. Last night when I got home from work, I had my whole tank snowed with kalk powder. Needless to say I lost almost all my sps. Thought I lost my fish too but they are still alive as of this morning.

I was really lucky that New Alameda is only 5 minutes away from my house and I was able to get 100 gallon of NSW to do a quick water change. Steve was really nice to come by and help me with the water changes. I really owe him one. He also housed some of my priced clam and corals. Hope they make it.

In short the lesson learn is if something breaks, don't fart around to replace it. Also DON'T TRUST YOUR MEMORY!

Thanks guys. I have the Litermeter III so the top off is fine. Salinity is fine also. It was just dumping the undisolve kalk mix into the tank. When I look this morning, the LPS and softie that I decided to keep in there looks unhappy but OK. All the fan worm, coco worm and feather duster are gone I think. Haven't seen any of my snails. The urchins looks OK. The mini bristle star are out and they look OK so far. The yellow tang is out and picking on rocks but looks a little skittish. I seen my Mystery and the Solar wrasses but they are not coming out much. The pair of clown looks normal.

hmmm when undisolved kalk goes in my tank it usually settles at the bottom of the sump where I put it. That sucks though, especially for such a cheap piece of equipment to replace.

You're lucky to have steve near by though, if that happened to me... well I'd have another tank to toss everything in, but still has got to suck in a big way.

I'm really lucky to have Steve close to me. I usually have a mix of salt water but for some reason I've been procrastinating on making some. I actually needed the SW the most since I got way too many containers and tanks in my garage.

That $20 timer cost me $100 in water and I don't know how much in live stock loss so far. I didn't mind the water change since I've been trying to figure out a way to do a bigger water change without breaking my back. I felt my tank needed a a good size water change once in a while. I'll be dong another 60 to 100 gallon today or tomorrow. Already got 50 gallons mixing since last night and will pick up the rest from New Alameda.

Did another 60 gallon tonight. Looks like all my fish are going to make it. Most of the LPS and softies survived but still not too happy. The biggest lost were all my acro frags and the Blasto Wellsi colonies. Steve said the ones I brought to his store looks like they are going to make it. I'm going to do another 60 to 80 tomorrow or Friday and might start bringing back my corals from NAA. Thanks guys for all your support.
