Don't beat me up too bad

Adobe Camera Raw (which pops up when you open a raw file with photoshop) does amazing work. I do everything there, and then resize when it loads into the main photoshop window and walla.

I was planning on taking some more shots this weekend and I was going to shoot only in raw.

Thanks. I am sure I will have some more pics in the photo forum come this weekend.

For me I really like nikon capture. Not sure why but when I process the raw images with NC it comes out better than when I process the raw images with photoshop.

I haven't even played around with Nikon capture yet. There is way more to taking a great picture than I thought.

:wildone: Not quite sure what the heck you are talking about here....

Hi Marko..... I was being a knob. It was a horrfically bad joke about the appearance of healthy chalice corl growth patterns. ;)

They seem to "Melt along" as they grow. While I do not "get" the hype associated with acan corals... I do see the fascination with chalice. The photos are awesome. There was beer involved im my lame comment. ;)

Raw is a mode that you can take a picture in, much like a jpeg from a point and shoot camera.

Hi Mark,

I'm shooting with a Canon, but I am assuming that your NEF files are the RAW files in for Nikon? When you say conversion, do you mean getting them into a jpeg or photoshop format of some sort?

If your raw files are in 16bit, you will need to convert them to 8 bit to save them as Jpegs.

Also to clarify, RAW files are uncompressed, 'raw data' if you will, whereas jpeg files are still images that have been compressed to the standards of the Joint Photographic Expert Group (JPEG).

Hope this helps.

For photoshop, I think you need to download a plugin for it to work. Its been so long since I set up my photoshop that I can't remember for sure.
