When i get my tax returne I'm finaly going to get the 75 gal package rock sand clean up crew . I have a T-5 432 watt actinate and white light 4 moon lightd. I know that theres stony corals sent with the TBS live rock . Will this lighting work with TBS rock ? I don't want to go metal halide .

Yes, From my experience, this will be plenty of light for your TBS liverock and the corals that are included.

which is a good thing as these corals so not like halides!

With my new 75g setup I'm being given two MH setups, what's everyone's suggestion for lighting?

I was going to do the two pendents with blue and white LEDS for the dusk/dawn and lunar cycles?

The 14k phoenix bulb seem to give a nice balance of blue/white. I would still be running t5 or HO for the primary and just run the MH for 3-4 hours in the afternoon. If you do run it primary, just start out at 4 hrs and slowly increase it until/unless you see some neg reaction.

I will not be doing a biotype, but also not heavy SPS, so I am not too concerned if something can't quite tolerate MH. I have my actinics 4 x 65 running before and after hrs w 3 hrs of 2x 250w MH total of 12 hrs. Will see how that works.

Its generally not necesary to run MH all day even for SPS. In the long run, its cheaper to fork out the extra for a used t5 to run the bulk of the day and set the MH for full afternoon sun and prime viewing time. My 'afternoon' is falling from 4:30-7:30 because I like the viewing of MH. 9am-9pm total.

:)

Yeah ShadowBear, gotta watch you IT guys!! ;) hehehe!

I've been running 10K MH since the beginning. I started out on 5 hour lights on and slowly increased it to 8 hours. I've got stony tube corals and lobed star coral colonies that have colored up nicely and grown just on these lights alone. I don't run anything else for prime viewing or afternoon or moonlight.

Yup

that works....what I meant was....the corals are used to low light....so you don't want to blast them upon receipt with halides as you can burn them......they will get used to halides and grow real fast...is the acclimation period from Gulf of Mexico to your tank that needs to be tempered...halides are fine to use.....just start in moderation....

Shoo, mostly I didn't want to have to go out and buy a new set of lights especially if I've been given some.

All I have to do is buy the bulbs and any other supporting lights.

What I'm also hoping is buy getting the LED moonlights and using them to produce a dusk/dawn effect and actual moon glow.

Current has these lightsLED Moonlights

That I plan on using 4 units of white to produce the dawn/dusk and 2 units of blue for moon glow.

That sound good, color and idea wise?

I'm trying to stick with the LED's do to:

1. Low Heat
2. Low Power Consumption
3. Cheap compared to PC's or T5's

As for the bulbs for the MH's I'm planning on using the SPS 14k.

Doing all my shopping at That Pet Place during the frag event for the 20% discount hehe.

Oops forgot to add on the 20g I have the lights running as follows:

Actinics 10am-10pm
Daylignt 12pm-8pm
Moon Lights 10pm-10am

Was planning the same on the 75g when everything gets aclimated

I love moonlights. I would lose so much enjoyment time if I didn't have'em. My tank is now crying for lack of TBS. Hope the weather breaks soon.:)
