Dosing pumps: $65 vs $300

I was thinking of the stand alone Kamoer dosing pump this Black Friday. It's a 3 head version for $300. Seems like it would be reliable and not as expensive as Vertex or GHL. I didn't like the GHL because using it is dependent upon connecting it to a PC.

You only need to connect to PC to set up, after that, it's all cloud based. I'm with you on the PC thing (being an all mac house) but fortunately I bought my son a pc laptop for school work and lucked out. If you don't have a pc, maybe you can borrow one for the initial setup? Also, GHL makes a 3 pump version, but you'll soon discover that having an extra pump isn't a bad thing, especially if one goes down (very rare), you can move your programming to the unused pump until you get a replacement. I like redundancy myself. The other thing about the standalone doser, you can add a temp probe and ph probe with the expansion port. There's level sensor(s) ports, stirrer port(s), etc..... They package a lot under the hood.
Just saying. Good luck!

You can also control it through the GHL doser app.

Here are some screen captures of the app

How do the motors in that ghl doser compare to those in the Neptune DOS?

No module is required because all standalone version Doser 2 include the temperature port. You only need the GHL digital temperature probe and you can start monitoring your temp.

Once again, thanks. Might utilize you as a resource vs the GHL website which isn't very clear to me yet, if you don't mind.

Litermeter dosing pumps have a 5 year warranty. No other pump on the market is as tested and reliable. Period. I have several that have been in continuous operation for 7 years.

Neptune DoS are more expensive and you have additional failure points, the Neptune system itself. With the LM pumps you punch in the desired dose and it runs. No interfacing, no web connection, no other junk to screw it up. "Opps I tried to modify my dosing schedule on my iPhone and the pump got stuck on and dumped in all of my alkalinity solultion". Give me a break. There is a point where the additional technology makes reef husbandry worse not better. Keep it simple.

So you can buy the Jebao and it won't save you any money. It will either fail and you buy a new one or it fails and it wipes out your corals. If you can, save up for a better system, any of those mentioned in this thread are better but I've made my personal preference clear. Other peoples opinions will differ.
