Doug's 300DD Starphire Reef Build

Got the strainer from united states plastic corp. If you notice the 1.5 drilled hole at bottom left side of tank is where this strainer/suction will be placed for the closed loop. CL will be run by hammerhead pump.

And for the first order of work now that the tank is indoors. Sealing in the rock wall was done over the weekend.

Thanks Lynn. Everything is doing pretty well. And you will see more progress within the next 3 days. Staying home for the 4th and going to work to hopefully get this done or at least really close.

Hi
Awesome new tank build Ill be watching this one with interest :)
Very interested in how the Hammerhead pump goes with the flow accelerators & if in fact they do increase the flow as Im using the same pump on my CL & would like a bit more flow.

Great looking tank. I think my next build will be a DD. I am sure it is fine but seeing you kneeling in the tank makes ME cringe......

What size is your tank. Do you need the increased flow? But yes, I will certainly post as to the increased flow with the accelerators.

I am already liking the DD and don't even have water in it yet. I am sure you would be pleased with the upgrade. Ah the kneeling isn't so bad..

HI
My tank is a 4x2x2 or 110g & while the flow I'm getting is OK Ill definitely need more if I go for corals that need alot of flow.
Ive estimated 40x turnover between Closed loop & Sump return.

Made some good progress over the 3 day weekend. I was called out to work and so wasn't able to get as much as I had hoped. Pretty much done with the rock work. Spent the day cleaning the old sand from the 156 and added some new sand as well. Been making up water, doing plumbing and hopefully getting ready fire this bad boy up. Sorry, I don't think the pictures really do the rock work justice. I ran out of the dry and had to fill in with live. I will be seeding with other live rock as well.

Thank you sir. How is your tank doing. I seem to remember for some reason you were breaking one down.
Been plumbing in pumps and sump and you know putting things back together. I will have more pics coming soon.

Well I was, but keeping one now. My 135 broke and Im replacing it with the 125. I really like your rock wall, excellent job. Im gonna have to come see it one of these days.

More good progress on the tank. Now we have water in tank and plumbing is complete with the exception of the closed loop. Canopy on and working on mounting lights. Have a little more help than I needed. After lights are mounted, next will be plumbing in the CL...

Fantastic tank you have there Doug, just some questions, how did you stick the sand onto your foam rock? i assume that the foam takes a while to set so whist waiting for it you dump sand on the foam?

Also is this foam ideal for sticking 2 live rocks together to form say an over hang?

Thanks for your visit and compliments. Below is the resin I used. This is applied to the foam and then the sand is sprinkled over it. You will need to apply the resin and sand several times to get good coverage.
Yes, you can foam one rock to another. As far as creating overhangs I drilled holes in some of my larger rock on rock wall to later suspend ledges from them.
