WORK IN PROGRESS. After a lot of planning ahead it's all starting to come together now. :hmm5:I am finally in the build phase of my new tank. I am moving on up from an Oceanic 156gal to the Marineland 300 DD.

The new tank will be dominated by SPS corals. Rockscape will be Pillars with the CL incorporated within rockwork with Flow Accelerators.

Specifications:

Tank:
72”x36”x27” Marinland 300 DD, sides and front starphire glass, eurobraced with one internal overflow 16”x6”. Drilled for Closed Loop.

Sump/Refugium Filtration:
100 Gallon - 48”x30”x17” By Regal Plastics.

Stand & canopy:
DIY

Light:
3 x MH 250 Watt SE mogul Lumenmax Elites reflectors w/ 250w icecap electronic ballasts. MH bulbs - I am thinking of running radiums as I am running on my current tank, but still considering other bulbs.
2 x 60” VHO super actinics

Chiller:
TradeWind - Super 1/3 HP

Flow Circulation:
Return Pump – Reeflo Dart
Closed Loop – Reeflo Hammerhead-Gold bottom and back drilled. 6 Pacific Coast Flow Accelerators Counter Clockwise direction.
2 x Tunze Turbelle Stream 6105 pumps to switch flow direction.

Skimmer:

Undecided at this time which unit I will go with.

Controller:
Neptune Apex Controller. With Tunze cables this controller will also control my new 6105 stream pumps.

Now for a few pictures of my current 156. New 300DD will be placed in same location as my 156. Stairway closet behind is where I house pumps and skimmer. Noise out of living room is always a good thing.

The 156 looks great. Your gonna love how 3 dimensional your scape can look with DD tanks. I just recently set one up, and I'm hooked.

The 156 has been nice and served it's purpose, but now it's time to move on to a bigger and better. I have been busting at the seams for a good while now and too crowded. I am looking forward to the DD room - room and more room. Going to do things much better this time around. Live and learn as they say.

Here are some pics of the support stand. I will skin it out with the hardwood once the tank is set up.

Very cool, I would have to agree with John Blaze as I too have just finished my 250DD, which I migrated from my 90gal. Enjoy :)

Sounds like a great build. I'm actually in the process of upgrading from the same oceanic 156 to the 300DD by marineland. I'll definitely be following along, good luck with the transition! I've got a trio of those radium bulbs myself (lumenbrights + lumatek 250W ballasts) and I love them. I'd highly recommend those.

Good to see your plans moving forward. As I know you've had plans for awhile now to upgrade. :) Let me know if you need any help, you know I'm just down the road.

Glenn, Thanks I will surely hit you up for some help moving the tank since you are so close by.

I recieved an email from Marineland this morning. My tank made it on the truck and headed to Oklahoma. I need to find the clubs glass clamps. Do you know who might have them?

I'm not sure. You may want to ask skiformance (Mike). I believe he's in charge of the club items.

Doug I have 6 of the glass clamps you can p/u at the office anytime next week or call me this weekend if you need them, but I do only have 6 lmk

Chris

Chris, I won't need the clamps until next Monday. So I will come by and see you Monday.

Lynn, yes the fun now begins. Get bored come by for a visit.

Nice Doug!
We just finished up our initial 300DD build and we're very happy. Looks like your plans are awesome. I went with the stock tank with corner overflows and drilled it at the house - looks like a fantastic custom build from Marineland. Is your CL pump going to be under the stand or behind the wall?

Hi Mike, I have enjoyed following your build. You have been successful in a great build.

I decided to go with a custom build. I wanted just the one OF box. Box has 2 - 1.5" drains and 1" return. I had them make the cuts in OF box to handle 2000 gph so I think I will be okay on the flow rate. And I wanted the eurobracing but didn't want the crossbracing.

The CL pump (hammerhead Gold) will behind the wall in a stairway room. The return pump (Dart) will also be house behind wall.

will the 250W's be enough with the depth of these tanks? I am in the process of planning an upgrade to the 300g myself and it would be so much better in regards to the electric bill if I could use 250W instead of 400W. Have you seen any SPS dominated tanks using the 250W over one of the DD's?
