Down sizing. My new 240 rimless.

Hey Joe,

If you don't mind me asking about your beautiful GC rimless tank--what's the glass thickness on the sides/bottom?

Thanks,

James

Been working all morning to squeeze a decent photo out of my camera, and here's the only good one so far, but I'd say Bill my right hand man hit the jackpot with this one cuz' it looks an awful lot like a Pink Smoothie to me. Now I just gotta convinvce Bill to not setup his tank too soon so's I can keep it in mine for awhile :D :

You could "accidentally" frag it now, and it would grow over by the time its picked up, hed never know ;)

As far as the splashing when cleaning is concerned? Would it help if the teeth on the overflow were lower? (thus raising the total water volume down a couple of inches.

Of course not, I love talking about my tank :D . . . its 1/2 inch on the sides and 3/4 inch on the bottom with a strip of 1/2 inch glass along the interior bottom perimeter.

Absolutely I think it would help, but I snapped off 2 teeth along the back edge and appear to be running up against a limitation due to my flow rate as well as the height of the glass which makes up the overflow itself which is hidden behind the acrylic cover. Add that to the list of "do over" wishes. I'd make the difference between the top of the overflow glass and the tank top at least 1/2 inch bigger. Thanks for tryin' to help! I am always open to any and all ideas for improvement. ;)

Joe

P.S. Don't forget to check out my totally redone website. Its not 100% yet, but its a big improvement over my first try. www.bluefrags.com

If you are on a tight budget, you don't mind if there is a nick or a scratch or two, you don't want any custom work, and you can wait 4 weeks after delivery to allow the silicone to cure then yes I would recommend ordering from them. If you do not meet all those criteria then I say look elsewhere, and yes the stand is from them as well.

Here's what I wrote on my website:

The Tank

If I were starting over I would not buy from GC.

I know that's a little confusing, but I hope that helps ;)

The latest improvement.

The latest improvement.

I posted in the zoo forum as well because I'm so excited by this change. I bought these babies nearly 3 years ago from Dr. Mac and they never looked blue in my tank until I moved them into a semi-shaded area on the bottom under a 400 watt Radium. In any case I'm lovin' em now :D

thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate the answers.

looks like your on your way to a meat eating carpet there. Don't see to much sand in that part of the tank, went BB?

JP's Blue Eared Pink Punch.

JP's Blue Eared Pink Punch.

First there was Pink Lava and now Blue Eared Pink Punch :D

I bought this guy when he was all white and I wasn't sure it would make it or what color it would become. Well now, a little over a month later, the polyps are extended and the color is pale pink with blue scallops. Holy Fantastic Finds Batman :eek1:

I tell ya the more time passes the more I think Steve Tyree has it right - Radiums plus actinic VHO = fabulous colors.

Hope ya likes it . .

Joe

There is something about that statement. I am leaving my DE and T5 on my current set up for radiums and vhos on my new build.

BTW, Does your magnifica sting the corals around it?

The H.Mag is a model citizen and never moves so I haven't run into any issues related to stinging. This seems to have come up a lot lately as I have found I've been answering several threads regarding the same question. By the way, same holds true for the mother colony and the other clone which is living at the Greenwich Aquaria store. Don't know if it's just mine or if the H. Mag is less prone to moving then other anemones or maybe it's something about the tanks stability and parameters.

Joe

I've had different anemones in my tank and once they settled, they did not move. My problem was as they grew they would touch my corals and sting them. I noticed a picture above where it looked like it was rubbing against a stoney.

Definitely my favorite type of clown host.

Yeah that camera shot is really misleading . . . a total optical illusion because the coral and the anemone are quite far apart. At some point I will certainly have to trim the coral back, but so far so good . . . good eyes ;) I suppose though that is the real answer because I have always been diligent about trimming or moving corals away from the anemone once they got big.

Do you have some photos of your old 'nems? I'd love to see 'em!

Almost forgot . . .

Almost forgot . . .

Almost forgot about my "other" pink. I've had this Pink Poci for years, but she's really lovin' the current tank because her pink is really poppin' now :D

Love the canyon shot Joe.

Unfortunately, I changed computers about 6 months ago after a problem with my HD. I saved a few pictures, but not too many of my tank :(

Thanks, me too!

Damn those HDs :( . . . are we allowed to say that :eek2: That'll teach ya to archive though, heh :)

Anyways here's one more good shot from today. Been tryin' like heck to get a good photo of this frag for a while, and just managed to squeak one out this afternoon . . .

Joe :D
