Will I finally got my hands on a small Achilles Tang. Thanks FJW. He seems to be doing well. Eating mysis and trying to get him to eat nori. He will stay in copper for two weeks thenPrazipro any suggestions to get him to eat better. He's only been in QT for a day. I guess patience is key.

you hit it on the head patience

and try to let him get used to you when I get a new fish I try to stay near my QT so he gets used to me and activity around him

one of my favorite fish! congrats!
Ramp up the copper slowly within 4-7 days. I think rule of thumb is to have it in therapeutic level of copper for 30 days. If you want to do 14 days of copper, I would transfer the fish to a brand new sterile qt tank thats at least 10 feet away after 14 days. Only transfer the fish and no equipment.
Also I believe chelated copper to be a little gentler on them compared to charged ionic.

if you want him to start eating nori I would suggest rubber banding it to a rock and put it at the bottom of the tank.

Just feed often, wouldn't worry about the Achilles eating nori in QT. That will come with time and more than likely after it's been introduced into the DT

I can't believe all this for one fish. Just throw it in the tank. It's more stressful with all those changes. It probably passed through at least 4 tanks before it got to you.

I did put mine straight into DT. Ick lives in my tank so I knew he'd get it. Left him in the acclimation box which stressed him. After 3 days he showed a white spot and started stressing. Let him in and he spent a week eating only live black worms. Declined everything else. After a week he still has spots but is eating everything. I think keeping them in small quarters does more harm than good for some species.

Ammonia has shown up in both of my QT tanks. I did a small water change but was wondering if I can use prime to reduce it along with the water changes?

Yes, you absolutely can and should. Prime will lock the ammonia, nitrates, nitrites up for 48 hours or so i believe. Additionally, you can use up to 5x+ the recommended dosage.... so i always just estimate high if I'm dealing with ammonia or nitrites in qt. Prime won't hurt anything, ammonia definitely will.

Good advice. If the AT is eating Mysis, you're good. most tangs have to 'learn' to eat nori. It'll happen eventually.

I dont know about the chemistry behind it, but its a known fact not to use any ammonia reducers such as Amquel or Prime, in conjunction with copper. somehow it caused a bad reaction which can be deadly. Water changes are your best bet.
