I ordered the fiberglass rod from Grainger.

masonry bit and go slow and keep it wet. you will probably split some rocks no matter how careful you are.

mcmaster.com unless I need it NOW and grainger has it in-stock. mcmaster usually has cheaper prices though and their "ground" shipping ends up being next day, so why waste my time driving around if I don't have to

Mark the key is to go very slow because most LR is very soft in comparison to actual rock so you will split it .i dont know if the acrylic rods will bend over time but along with a bit of epoxy you should be able to get enough structure out of the two

Grabbed a 1/2 inch Masonry bit at HD for like $10. Works like a charm. I just need to get my hands on some 1/2 inch PVC rods now......
