Ok, so i was uploading pics on my computer from my D50 via a USB Cable, well being a complete moron i get up and trip over the cable pulling my D50 off the desk and onto the floor. It is like a 3 foot drop onto carpeting. It landed on the base, picked it up and seems to work fine, however when i shake it, it makes a slight rattle like something broke off inside. I seperated the body from the 18-70mm DX Lense and they both make the rattling noise, is this normal? I then shook my other lense that i didnt drop and it does not rattle. Any ideas on what it could be? Any ideas on how much it will cost to have someone look at it, if i should?

Thanks,

Jeff

The rattle you can hear from the camera body will be the tilt switch that tells the camera if your holding it normally or on its side, as im sure it will be similar to my D70.

The lens shouldnt rattle, i have that lens and mine does not make a sound.

I too have the same lens, and I have to report negative on the rattle also, my D70 doesn't rattle either.

it seams to be working fine, i still might go down to a camera store and have it looked at, im just afraid on how much its going to cost to have it looked at, and even fixed.

Man that sucks! This is of course heinsight, but in the future I would buy some kind of accidental protection plan against something like this.

Kinda why I bought my D50 at circuit city and paid an extra $100 for a 4 year protection plan. I know I am accident prone so if I ever accidentally drop the camera or lens I get a replacement lickity.

Yeah circuit city. Not saying I would do this, but they basically told me to drop the camera just before the 4 years is up and get a new camera lol! Those shisty sales people!

But it is a good deal if you ask me to have peace of mind.

I think it covers theft too and or dropping it in the ocean and not being able to retrieve it.

If you look at the fine print on most of those kinds of protection plans there is no guarantee that you're getting a "new" replacement. Most will ship refurbished gear that may be older than the camera that you dropped on purpose.

If it sounds too good to be true.....
