Drum Roll Please...... 8000 gallon tank build

I remember this photo. Can we get an update with a snorkel?

If reading comprehension fail includes me not wanting to go to a facebook page to view them then ok. Fail. Photobucket has a nice little link that you can post here to include the photos in this thread. This thread is the only place that I will care about this build. Put em here or I won't see them.

He isn't the only one who's busy.

Wow, the hate in this thread is unbelievable. Methinks many jealous people are secretly hoping for this to fail, so that their pathetic piece of the ocean doesn't feel so, well... pathetic.

Gobig, ignore the naysayers. Those of us who have more to do than troll the internetz are watching and waiting with baited breath to see this develop.

Are you kidding me? I really don't think the OP gives 2 craps whether you're too lazy to look up a photobucket link or not.

You come off sounding like an arrogant ******* at best.

incredible nice seeing it be full of water =D finally. can't wait until some fish is in it =) good luck gobig =)

Um, you're gonna need more liverock than that. :lmao::ape:

Looks good, and I like the rock work around the perimeter.

Cheers,
Aaron

Oh believe me I know that the OP doesn't give two craps about us. Reread the entire thread if you just got here, it's two or more years old. At first ALL of us were wildly enthusiastic about it. Months and months go by without any update and eventually many of us realized that he didn't give a damn about us and how we were all waiting "with baited breath".

So now we say what we say when he posts yet another teaser. *shrugs* You can choose to lash out at me about my laziness, but I'm not about to start clicking on links people post nor do I have the time to research and find the pictures myself somewhere else in some facebook account. He can't figure out how to post the photobucket link in his message? Give me a freakin break.

That said, you are quite right. I chose to write out my frustration about yet another teaser and it was wrong. They say if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all and I should've just kept my mouth shut.

My apologies to anyone that was offended. I don't know why he can't just post a normal message with info and pics in it. This tank could prove to be the most awesome of all and a couple years ago I was dreaming of doing the same thing to my house and wanted to see how it worked out only to be let down month after month. It's nice to finally see some water going in.

Good luck to the OP, hope your uncle figures it all out when he gets it working. I'm sure there will be many problems that you have to figure out for yourself because nobody else is doing this. Maybe this thread will finally turn into what it should've been long ago.

Okay, so now that I'm back at home where my internet runs faster than 56k and I made it through yesterday's 19-hour work day (but who am I to complain, Snausy is the busy one here), I can post a couple of pictures of the finished product. Keep in mind that this is just a test fill to make sure we didn't mess anything up. The tank will be drained and re-filled at least once more before we actually put saltwater in it, and it will be late fall at best before there are fish in the main tank.

I had to jump in once it was full. At 55F, I'm really glad I was wearing my beer jacket.

We got a little impatient... had to have a fish in there. This was around 10:00 a.m. the next day (Started filling around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, finished filling at nearly 12:00 a.m. Sunday).

Threw a few hundred pounds of limestone in there to see how much space it would take up. We'll probably end up with 5-8,000 lbs in there plus whatever live rock we can get our hands on.

Hope everyone enjoys. This is where the real learning begins. I can't tell you how excited I am to have finally seen the project begin to come to fruition.

I just found this thread and it's an amazingly entertaining one at that. I don't understand what all the negativity is from though. Very cool build and concept. One idea I didn't see mentioned but I might have missed in such a long thread to really enjoy the thing from above would be to make a giant look down acrylic box, kinda like the little ones people use to take photos of their corals in their tanks. Have it suspended from the ceiling or hinged from the side to lay down over the tank. This tank is so big it would be almost a glass-bottomed boat and you could even walk on it too. Having it not permanently in the water would make it easy to keep clean too.

I'm so loving this thread. Don't listen to people who obviously don't have much of anything to do, esp. if all they can do is sit around and flame other people. Keep up the good work, and not for nothing, you go to school, there's gotta be a photography major looking to pad their portfolio. (HINT HINT) Glad they guy isn't my boss, he'd be the victim of every awful office prank ever....

I'm glad I caught this thread near the end... 2+ years of waiting would be a bit much for me but... Great Job...

woww..i forgot about this build. been following it even before i signed up on reef central. mighty good seeing progress being made on it.

Fascinating. Especially seeing just how quick some people are to start getting nasty and negative for no reason.

Two or three years for a project like this? Where is the surprise? I have a friend who is renovating his house. His kitchen is ripped up to floorboards. His stove is in the basement, microwave in the hall, wood and junk everywhere. His wife had been reluctant to have people over until the project is finished. But, it is still maybe 1/4 done.

He started it in 1993.

Now that is a problem. This tank has been zipping along by comparison.

The new pictures are awesome and I'm looking forward to finally seeing this thing come to fruition.

I'm sorry for being snippy, I just came to expect dissappointment from this thread and thought it was more of the same, I was wrong and not unhappy about it. The pictures are finally coming and you can start working on the actual tank now with stocking etc. Has the potential to be quite beautiful.

I'll just keep quiet and enjoy the incoming pics now.

Man oh Man 8000 gallons!!!!!!!

Man oh Man 8000 gallons!!!!!!!
